Why can't you just have her call? I handle all the apps (and spending, ha ha!) in our home, but sometimes hubby just has to make a phone call. It usually takes 5 minutes or less. I dial for him and sometimes provide him with a helpful script. Sometimes he'll even say, "You have permission to talk to my wife about my account" and hand the phone back to me.

The only drawback is that both hawaiian cards have a fee.

Well if you limit yourself to only churning cards that don't have a fee you're going to be very limited. Have fun!

I am just reasoning that it would be easier to grab the free Hilton points before I pay for them, especially since a lot of people say they aren't worth much anymore.

Shouldn't be a problem if she introduces herself, answers verification security questions, then hands it off to you.

No issues at all. But, I guess since it is a foreign name, they don't know if the name belongs to a man or lady. But, I have to admit, it is funny when they say Hello Mr Wife's name

Well if he gets those 140k, plus 50k from the Amex, and 50k from Citi, he's at 240k, which can get at least a few nights in their best hotel. Plus there's the reserve, which I think was mentioned, that gives two nights in any hotel on a weekend.

Right now I'm so far away from really being able to book my trip that I'm just stocking up. I won't be able to book my trip for another 6-9 months, so I don't know the points structure too well.

So here's what I've kind of decided on, and where it will leave me:

Chase SWA Premiere/Plus (only one, preferably Premiere)
  • 50,000 WN points
  • $2k in 3 months
Chase AirTran
  • 32 A+ Credits (~38,400 WN points)
  • 2 Business upgrades
  • $2k in 3 months
American Express Premiere Gold
  • 50,000 MR points
  • $1k in 3 months
Citi AA Gold
  • 30,000 AA miles
  • $750 in 4 months
US Airways
  • 35,000-40,000 US Air miles
  • First spend

Total Haul: ~210,201
Spend: $6,001 in first 3 months, $750 in fourth month.

And here is where it will leave my once everything is transferred into it's final destination, this includes spending and all existing miles, including those from previous AoRs:

United: ~100,000 (CSP & MP Explorer)
AA: ~160,000 (Citi AA Plat, US Air x2, Citi AA Gold, Once merger is complete)
WN: ~92,000 (Premiere and Air Tran, Once merger is complete)
Virgin America: 20,001 (hehe)
Hilton: 270,000 (Citi Hilton Gold, Amex Hilton, Hawaiian, MR*)
Total: ~642,000 miles/points

Bolded card above is pending whatever is available, and possibly will be added, since 35-40k miles would only cost $1.00.

*Amex MR transfers 1:1 to Virgin Atlantic, which then transfers 1:2 to Hilton, versus a straight 1:1.5 for Amex -> Hilton, netting 100k Hilton points for $1k in spend.

AoR.. knowing hhonors is worthless

I was going to load up on hilton points in my next AoR but don't know what to do with the new devaluation.

I'm looking to only obtain hotel points and only travel about 10 days a year. The only cards that give me hotel points that I have now are the hilton amex and the chase freedom.

I'm going to apply for the Chase Ink Bold for sure but am kind of lost from there. Should I go ahead and get the citi hiltons and maybe the priority club visa/club carlson premier?

You can get the Hilton Reserve which still gives you two nights in any Hilton on a weekend, worldwide. There's also the Hyatt card that I think also gives two nights, not sure of terms though.

For me, there aren't really any good hotel cards right now, most of them are for low end properties/chains.

What locations are you visiting? That could help narrow it down.
