Were you transferred to someone else, or did the first rep you spoke with say there were no offers? And did you hang up/call again? Curious if they just won't give some customers offers, or whether you got a bad representative.

I doubt the individual rep has that much discretion. I suspect Barclay's has a department similar to airline revenue management that uses algorithms to determine the profitability of each customer, and that plus other factors determine which customers get retention offers, and if so, what they are. The other factors might include various marketing tests to see if certain offers convert an unprofitable cardholder to a profitable one, or increase a customer's profitability.

Aviator Red card. Have had it for at least 5 years (carryover from US Airways). I think the only charge I've made on it the last few years is my monthly Netflix bill. Always got the AF waive, or some type of credit offer after I spent $100 or some nominal amount. No offers this time, despite asking 2-3 times. Closed the card. Will now have to keep an eye on the expiration date for my 500,000 AA miles!

Arrival plus

Had arrival + for 2 years, some spend, maybe 3-4k per year. No offers on card, except downgrades. Arrival no fee option and rewards. Both with 1k points. Took rewards, will cash out $50ish in points and close in a year or so.

Been a while since I've logged in (and might not again for a while, so sorry if I don't reply), but I was using this thread as a resource today so I thought I'd add my experience...

Called in today about the annual fee on my Aviator Red and asked if they could waive the annual fee. The frontline CSR said she couldn't, but I might be eligible for a downgrade to the no fee version. I have a mid teens balance transfer on the card, so this interested me, and I said sure. She transferred me to what was obviously a retention specialist, who said that I could do that, but she could also just waive the annual fee for the year. I accepted the waiver of the annual fee. I did mention the loss of the 10% refund feature.

She also offered, additionally, a statement credit of $100 if I spent $1000 a month for 3 months. I declined that because I am still carrying that balance transfer (and I am also working on several thousand dollars of bonus spend elsewhere).

I have had the card just for the one year, with no spending at all other than the initial purchase that triggered the bonus, the initial annual fee, and the fairly large balance transfer I am still carrying.

Aviator red card, annual fee coming up, only minimal spend on it. Called in with desire to downgrade to no-fee card (to preserve large credit limit), was told no downgrade offer, just an upgrade to the Silver. No red card retention offers at all. Nothing. Frontline CS agent said computer says no offers, asked to be elevated to retention specialist. They also said no retention offers of any kind at all. Not willing to flex on anything. Told them to close the account, and in the questionnaire they gave me about reason I'm canceling I said it was their fault they lost a customer because they wouldn't allow a product change and at least keep some of my business. Agents didn't seem to care, didn't even try to sell me on any benefits of the card or make it seem like they should even try to retain customers. Oh well, no tears shed here, moving on.

Clearly not a very good/desirable customer, so it isnt exactly surprising to me that they didnt make any offers. I dont expect any either next year after the final 10k AA miles bonus, for the same reasons.

Not worth it to put heavy spend on a co-brand card like this with its meager return and minimal benefits, offering me NOTHING except for the silver upgrade, not even a downgrade, was a bit of a surprise. No way I'd ever put the kind of spend on I do on my CSR on an aviator red. I'd have stayed if they at least made an attempt at an offer.

lol I couldn't even figure out how to get a human through their automated phone tree. saying 'close account' just gave me the automated script that closed it without any fuss but also no effort at retention.

Literally $0 spend over the last several years so I wouldn't have expected any retention effort anyway.

AA Aviator former US card

Barclays Arrival Premier:
$27K spend, no offers - still deciding my final course of action. Rep was very cordial and attempted to waive the fee manually despite the system not letting her, to no avail.

Lufthansa card offered $100 statement credit for spending $1000 3 consecutive months. Turned it down for now, fee hits end of next month. Last year got 5000 miles for spending 1k in 3 months I prefer miles to the dollars.

Aviator Red. $2.5k annual spend.
Offered $100 statement credit with 3 months of $1k spend per month. Took it.

Tried to get them to apply it to an upgrade to Silver, but said that wasnt possible. Told to call back during the spend challenge after paying this years AF to not be charged the Silver AF until the following year anniversary.
