Question Aviator Red w/ 10k anniversary

Called on May 29, 2016 and got AF waived but no 5K points after $1000/90 days. Maybe my spend was too low or I shouldn't have admitted to still flying AA occasionally Still nice to get the 10k anniversary points for free.

Anybody else having a similar experience?

Make it three. All they would offer me was a downgrade. Put over 30k spend on the card, enough for the companion pass.

Does anyone know if I can still use the companion pass if I downgrade? I presume so since I have the physical pass with the numbers but I'd like to make sure. Upgraded to the Silver for the 3x AA spend, but now I wish I just kept the Red because I use the free checked bag feature, there's no way I'm paying $195 for the Silver and now I can get 3x TYP on Airfare with the Citi Prestige.

Have the Aviator Red with 10K anniversary miles. Haven't had any spending on it other than initial spend. Right before the annual fee was to hit, called but no retention offer. Called again after annual fee hit and again no retention offer. I mentioned my wife's card received an annual fee waiver as well as 5000 miles with $1000 spending in 90 days. Still no offer. I said go ahead and close the account. At this point, CSR put me on hold for a couple minutes and was able to give me the exact same offer as my wife. Happy to keep it. I like the 10K anniversary miles.

Aviator Red card, called to cancel due to annual fee and having same benefits via the Citi AA card. Waived the annual fee but no bonus offered. Only promotion about Rocketfish hotel website.

will keep the card open to maintain the credit limit.

Aviator Red, got AF waived plus 5K miles for $1K spend in 90 days. Have had card since 2013. Little spend in last year and was willing to let it go, but happier to keep for the 10K annual bonus and 10% redemption rebate.

Aviator Silver
Final try for retention offer, but got nothing. Was offered downgrade to Red for $89 annual fee or White, for no annual fee. Chose White. There's something on the companion pass saying it has to be charged to the Silver card, but I'm hoping that isn't actually enforced when it comes time to use it. I can still get 3x points (ThankYou points instead of AA miles, but no big deal) for Airfare on my Citi AT&T Access More Card & free checked bags with the Citi AA card, so the only thing I'm really losing is the potential to get another companion pass, but since I'm not putting another 30k on the card this year, especially after no retention offer, wasn't happening anyway.

I continue to be amazed by banks who don't value customers with your level of spend. I even see reports on other cards with six figure spends and the cardholder still gets no retention offer. Can't even throw you a token $50 or 5K miles? Geez.

And yet there are cards that barely get any use at all. And they offer a fee waiver! If many airlines now emphasize "the more you spend, the better we treat you" I wonder why banks (who supposedly are fighting for every dollar) aren't doing the same.

With the revenue change at AA -- meaning, that we now need to do a lot of ticket spend in addition to accumulating EQMs in order to attain/maintain status -- the value of the Silver Aviator card had dropped precipitously for me. May be the time to let it go, although I appreciate the reminder (mallomar) that I may want to use the companion certificate before then.

Also, the 3x1.6 = 4.8 cents on AA tickets from the Citi Prestige covers the loss of the 3x AA miles from this card.

Next month or whenever my fee for the Silver hits, I'll see if this (declining value of EQMs) is on their radar re retentions.

Gosh, the AA thing has me unwinding my total FT portfolio!

I wouldn't be surprised if AA adds something in this regard.

Although frankly, I might prefer an EQD boost rather than a waiver given that EQDs will be factored into upgrade priority starting next year.

Does Barclays do a hard pull for CL increases? I think for my retention bonus I'll ask to double my limit so I can MS a lot more and make up for the fee

Arrival+

Spent around $13000 in a year on Arrival+. The only offer I got was to downgrade to no fee Arrival and 1000 ponts. Took it since I need chip/pin.

AAviator Red - got AF waived and a bunch of bonus offers. I called after my last statement closed with AF - the first time I called before my AF posted I didn't get any offers. I received the promo for 15k bonus miles after $500 spend for 3 months in May and was working on getting the bonus/willing to pay the AF for it. Glad I was able to get it + AF waiver! Retention specialist also put the Uber (3x miles) and Rocketmiles bonus offers on my account, as well as an additional 500 miles for my next purchase!

Received same after blunting the benefits argument by mentioning that I have the Citi card.
