be careful with front line reps. One rep almost closed my card. I think it is best to escalate if you don't want to lose the card. I certainly don't

Agree. If the front line rep refused to escalate, just huaca until you get a more helpful rep. The first guy I got refused to escalate but said he would request a manager to call me within 24 to 48 hours. Huh? I said forgot it this is too inconvenient to me and just huaca in 10 min.

Then I got the helpful Filippina who gave the spiel on no offer but voluntarily to suggest she could send a request which would only take a couple minutes to get an answer she said. Sure enough it came back as positive. Still haven't seen the reversal. I sent an SM asked for verification if the process has started because given our upcoming trip I want to see the reversal before we leave the country for 40 days!

Yes I want to keep this one although I have another one which fee was waived in Nov 2014 by a manager a month before fee billed but the fee was still billed. Called and the rep saw the previous request was in file. He said normally the reversal would be in the following statement but he went ahead to process it so I did not have to follow up again.

On this one I might have a repeat situation. We will see if the reversal shows up next week. Else have to call again. I guess it all depends on how the waiver is performed initially.

People said it gets better result after the fee is billed. So on this one I waited till after fee was billed. Unfortunately based on recent data, it is not always the case anymore. Seems the majority of us needed to get a manager or a second rep to get it done. I would suggest anyone whose AF will be billed soon, call now instead of waiting.

What day and time did you call to get a foreign based person?

Just got the same line of "24-48 hours and my manager will call you back". I'm going to wait it out and see what happens that way y'all have a different datapoint. FWIW I got a Filipina agent and she still gave me this explanation (1:15p PST was time of call).

Will report back in a few days!

So why didn't he specify US air card?

Manager called me back today (was a US based employee out of Washington DC). Given that I had such littles spend on this thing (< $2000 last year), she was still able to offer me the $89 statement credit to balance out the annual fee. This was my second anniversary. Happy to receive the 10k miles for free

Similar experience:

Minimal spending over the minimum for the bonus.

Called a month ahead of AF posting.

Front line CR found no downgrades and said she was not authorized to offer a retention bonus.

Nor would she transfer me to a retention specialist.

I asked for a manager. He offered 2 downgrade choices, said there were no offers on the account, but spontaneously added that he could waive the AF. I accepted this.

Then he said that since it hadn't posted yet, he couldn't waive it. However, he said he noted the account with his promise, that I should call back after the fee posts, and that it will be waived. I noted his name and ID.

We'll see.

First call got US based rep. Would not be willing to make a request when system did not show an offer. I brought up the heavy spending on A+ but the rep still refused to transfer me to manager or put in a request.

Hang up and called again in 10 min, got Philippines based rep who was willing to go thru system (nothing offered) then put in a request. A couple minutes later the request came back as approved. AF would be credited back though she isn't sure within same statement or next. I have to monitor the account in next 2 weeks to make sure if I need to pay it first as we would be on a long trip soon and would be aboard when the payment due date comes.

For those of you when you get an AF waiver on a billed AF, when did you see the statement credit posted?

Apparently either you have some comprehension issues or you elevate the spoon feed mentality to a new height. First you claimed I was not clear on retention on which Barclays card. I suggest you to reread the post, particularly the FIRST sentence. After all, what Barclays card would give 10K anniversary miles? And what Barclays card has the $750 15K spend bonus that everyone has hoped to get? Then you did not understand "legacy card" while other poster obviously has no issue to know what card it is referred to - guess why? Because the card "still" has 10K anniversary miles. Newer US cards have lost this benefit. And you claimed Why didn't I say so?
I Bolded the First Sentence that you have trouble to comprehend, not once, but twice!

At least you got a manager. You should be fine. My experiences are the AF would still post but when you call back, they should see the note and eventually do the reversal. May not happen immediately depends on whom you get on call back but it seems they do a good job notating accounts.

Now a brief update on my card.

I did send an SM yesterday and got a reply "Please be informed that we already waived the annual fee on your account in the amount of $89.00. It will reflect on your next billing statement. We hope you find this information helpful."

Statement closed on Apr 5th. The AF is still not credited back yet.

Called this afternoon and got a rep based in Nevada. She checked the account and said, they were in the process of waiving the fee as it required a manager's approval. She added, as a matter of fact, a manager just approved this 4 hours ago, (Wasn't that already approved when the request was sent 3 days ago?) but it needs to be sent to another dept to process. the credit would post in 3 to 4 business days, so she claimed. She told me to wait at least till Friday if it is still not there, then call back.

Since I have a long international trip coming up soon I need to make sure the credit is posted before my travel date. Else I would need to pay the fee first so not to miss the payment due date... That is why I follow up more frequently.

UPDATE:
Fee reversal shows up today 04/07. Initial call was on 04/02.

US Air retention

I had a difficult but ultimately successful call today. My US Air card annual fee posted about 5 weeks ago (2nd anniversary). I had very little spending on the card this past year. I called a couple of weeks ago and was told there were no offers on my account and they couldn't even transfer me to retentions. Called back today and was again told by the agent that the fee could not be waived. The conversation continued like this:

Me: Can you transfer me to retentions?
Agent: Sure!
Same Agent after short hold: I want to inform you that if we waive the annual fee you will lose some of the benefits on your card.
Me: Am I being downgraded to a different card?
Agent: No, definitely not.
Me: Which benefits would be removed?
Agent: We don't have that information.
Me: Can you verify this with a supervisor?
Agent: (After short hold) My supervisor says you would lose the 10% mile rebate, etc.
Me: That sounds like you're switching me to a different product.
Agent: Well, it's like that.
Me: I'm confused, can I speak to the supervisor?
Agent: No he's not available, but I'll find someone else who can help you.
Agent: (After long hold) I spoke with a different manager and some other people and confirmed that if we waive your fee for just one year you will not lose any benefits. A credit will post on your next statement.
Me: Wonderful!

Not sure why the misinformation, but glad it ended well. ^

Possibly the easiest waiver ever of an annual fee. Quickly transferred to a polite specialist. I just mentioned I was unsure if I would need the card as an AAdvantage card. Zero spend in the last year.

$89 AF just posted at 1y anniversary. Called and indicated that I like the card but benefits aren't enuf to merit the fee. Agent indicated they may be able to address that concern and offered to transfer me to a retention specialist -- who offered to credit back the AF. Last summer I'd called to cancel and accepted a retention offer for 15K bonus miles after 3 consecutive months of spend over $750 per month. Modest spend on card but have no other Barclays credit and an 848 FICO score.

Wow, 848 FICO?! Is that a real score or one of the free scores?

What time did you call Barclays, and did you call the number on the back of the card? Did they mention their location?

Was this for the Arrival+ or US Airways card?
