Is downgrading the Arrival+ to Arrival no longer possible?

I just rang Barclay and they said I'm not eligible for downgrade.

How long have you had the Arrival+? Some banks don't let you downgrade cards less than 12 full months after you got them, and since you didn't say how long you've had it, I can't guess if that's the reason you're not eligible or not.

A little more than 12 months (opened in Mar 2018)

Called to ask for retention offers for my Aviator Red but was only offered a generic balance transfer offer.

Asked to downgrade but was told "there are no offers for you to downgrade". Is downgrading usually considered a offer or any tips on how to get offered a downgrade to a no AF version?

Had the card for 4 years

If you're sure you want to downgrade, make a separate call to just ask for that. They get downgrade requests all the time, many people who aren't FTers don't even know to try for retention offers, so all they ask when they call is to downgrade. Then if the fronttline agent tells you that you can't but doesn't explain why, ask to be elevated to a supervisor.

But there may be a timing issue. There are rumors that they may not be allowing downgrades until the new Aviator card benefits are actually rolled out (not just announced). Or they may have a temporary freeze on all downgrades, since just above your post someone was denied a downgrade from Arrival+ to Arrival.

What would you downgrade an Aviator Red to, though? I don't think the no-AF Aviator exists any more, does it? Maybe they'd allow a product change to some other non-AF Barclays card l but I don't know if that's generally an option.

As of November 2018, there was a no fee Aviator. I downgraded when they would not waive the fee.
My next card is due for renewal at the end of May, so I will try again for a waiver or possibly a downgrade. I don't think anyone can predict with certainty right now how it will go,with the upcoming changes in the works

I was a little unclear on the new benefits letter they sent. My anniversary is in March. Will I still receive one last 10K anniversary bonus next year or was the one I received in March the last one?

As I read it, if the billed annual fee this year is less than $99, you'll get an anniversary bonus next year, the first time you're charged $99: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/barcl...being-removed/

well I figure with the loss of some benefits it's a good reason to threaten to cancel.

Seeing the same issues as others, long time Aviator Red holder (from the old US Airways days) and called in as Annual Fee came up and not using the card. Told no 'offers' even to downgrade (Aviator free) / cross grade (no offer to cross grade to Arrival) and no offer to remove annual fee either. Only option was to cancel account. Great move by Barclays to lose great customers !

My Aviator Red will be coming up for renewal/AF next month. As I understand it I could pay the $99 fee and get one last round of 10K anniversary miles. Don't think I'm even going to bother as I've got too many unused AA miles as it is. Will be canceling after many years of holding this card (previously the USAir card). Bummer.

Cant you just cancel the card (not pay the AF) and keep the 10k miles since it would already be deposited into your acct (usually before AF even posts??)
