Best way to pay Orbitz
 

Still learning the best ways to maximize miles. I want to book a package through orbitz that includes a AA flight.
If I use my Citi/AA card will I get double miles since its a AA flight or do I need to book through aa.com. I also have a AMEX Plat card. Will this give me double points on orbitz travel purchases?

You will not get double miles for AA because your paying Orbitz not AA. It will count as travel or airline if you have a Sapphire or Gold.

Nah I doubt it would post as AA. You want to look at some sites like Evreward.com and compare- if you go through a portal AND use a travel bonus card, like the Chase Sapphire Preferred 2x or Amex Gold 3x. Didn't know the Plat had a travel x2 category?

The portals change so I always run them through something like evreward to get the latest offer. In this case you can get 5.2% cashback from Bigcrumbs.com Here is my link to sign up for Bigcrumbs if you want to join, which you don't need to use, but if you do I get a referral bonus... kinda a conga line thing. It is very easy to get paid out with these guys and I earned about $650 last year from my own purchases from here.

thanks. I have a voucher and coupon for orbitz that makes it the best deal by a good amount, but I will continue to look for better options

Bigcrumbs stacks with Orbitz and other sites. So you signup for bigcrumbs, search Orbitz on bigcrumbs, click through, book, apply your voucher and coupon, get 5.2% cashback on the sale, plus any creditcard points separately.

By far the best option..

I used it last year just like this to save over 3K on a Panerai, applied my coupons on the site I wanted to use and got $540 cashback from BC.

FYI, I booked a flight through Orbitz a couple of weeks ago. The flight was on UA. I used my UA Xplorer card and earned 2x miles on it. Miles have posted already. :)

Did the charge post as Orbitz or United?

Individual flights on Orbitz will often charge through from the airline itself.

However, if you are booking such a flight, nearly always the price will be the same directly from the airline.

You may lose the portal cashback but you could easily gain it back in not having to deal with a "travel agency" if you need to make a flight change or there is some other irregular operation. Remember, unless you book directly with the airline, most of the time voluntary changes have to be processed by the "travel agency", who will add their own fees in addition to whatever the airline charges. Maybe it's worth it. But like any kind of insurance, you won't feel the pain until you need it.

(If the flight is part of a package, then the flight will typically NOT be charged directly by the airline anyway.)

If you have a Discover card, the ShopDiscover portal gives you 5% cash back on Orbitz packages.

The charge posted as united. Everything shows up in my UA account like it was booked directly.

Nice one! But if you have the CSP why bother risking it - you get the 2x for travel and can transfer to UA if you like... if you don't have the CSP get one!

Excellent idea !! I don't have CSP......yet. Chase is still digesting my first batch of cards with them......hate for them to get indigestion at this point !! :D
