Merging inquiries
 

I have applied for SWA personal card at 2:00 AM today, and got the application pending for approval. Called the app status line but after entering my SSN the automated system didn't mentioned anything about the application!

The good news is that I logged into my chase account today and the new credit account showed up, so I assume it is approved.

Long story short, now I am wondering if I apply for another chase CC would the two inquiries merge into one? The two inquiries would be in the same day but a few hours apart.

How do banks treat multiple inquiries for credit cards if applied for in the same day?

I could be wrong, but I believe the only time inquiries merge is if it is two inquiries from exactly the same bank division, like two AA cards from citi. It doesn't work if there is any difference in the division. Look in the Citi AA thread.

My understanding is that multiple inquiries on the same day as long as they are for the same type (credit card vs credit card ... or auto loan vs auto loan), they will be counted as only one inquiry. Both will show, but the count will not increase.
