So the Club Carlson / Radisson Rewards cards are dead....and here's the latest email I've gotten from US Bank about the substitute card. It's not an upgrade at all.
I rather liked the Radisson cards.

It's not U.S. Bank's fault, but it still isn't an upgrade. Converting a specific hotel rewards card with specific benefits into a generic cash-back-masquerading-as-travel-rewards card is a customer-hostile decision. It says, "You are a number to us, and we think you're too stupid to realize what we just did." I'm not saying they had a better option, but all of their marketing is just putting lipstick on a pig.
A more customer-friendly change would have been to leave the US Bank Radisson cards alone until the Radisson-Choice merger completes and then sell these accounts to Barclays to be converted to Choice Privileges credit cards (assuming Radisson Rewards Americas is merged into Choice Privileges.)

It seems that US Bank is out of the affinity business. My remaining US Bank card, REI, is being converted to a Capital One REI card next month.

Can we convert the Go card(useless to me) to Cash plus card? I never had the Cash Plus card and the 5% rotating categories will be really useful.
Update: Chatted with support and they changed the account to Cash+ Visa signature, account number will change.

A new card #. Is that treated like a new account opening then on one's credit report?

That's what should happen at every bank when you change account numbers on an existing card account.

I'm pretty sure that a bank is legally not allowed to keep things going on a card for which their contract has ended.
In any case, them not doing that means that you can get a signup bonus on a Choice Hotels card from Barclays if you don't already have one. You wouldn't qualify for that if they had been able to convert it.
