Questions on Meeting Minimum Spend and maximizing the points
I received an email today from Amex for Birthday gift cards with no purchase and activation fees till 11/30/2012.
How does Citi , Chase and Amex treat these purchases? And 1. I got the Amex Hilton card with min spend of 750 in 3 months ...to maximize the points its says 6 points on super markets and drug stores. Can I buy gift cards( gas ,amazon , restaurant ) from safeway and CVS with the amex credit card card or amex gift card with out raising any flags? I got the 2 Citi Hilton Visa Signature cards with 1500 spend on 6 months ..can i use the same trick of buying gift cards at super markets to meet n maximize the spend.. And thinking of using both the cards for paying internet and wireless at@t bills...Is there any way to prepay in advance for Comcast or At&t? |
While I don't have Comcast or AT&T, you should be able to prepay your internet and wireless bills - their competitors allow it.

Many stores will not allow you to buy gift cards in the store with a credit card but you can buy them on the store's website. I've done that at Staples and shipping is usually free if you spend enough.
You should be able to pay whatever amount you want on the Comcast and AT&T websites. I pay my Verizon bill with AMEX but Charter doesn't accept AMEX. You can use the gift cards you buy to pay vendors who don't accept AMEX. |
i've purchased gift cards from randalls, safeway's sister store, with a credit card without problems earlier this year. they were coded as regular grocery store purchases on my chase statement. maybe 6 years ago i bought gift cards at cvs with a credit card but i don't know if they still allow that to be quite honest. i think some good general rules to follow with amex are 1) don't go crazy with sudden big purchases and 2) if you're going to buy gift cards try to add them to other grocery purchases so the totals aren't exactly $50, $100, $200, etc.
i was trying to meet the spend requirement on a new hilton amex before the statement closes today and had no problem prepaying my att bill with a 0 balance :) |
