Travelling DJ

Hi FlyerTalk,

I'm a travelling producer/dj. I'm very new to the frequent flying, but I've just realized I should be a) collecting FF mileage and b) buying my tickets with a FF credit card.

As I'm new, I've been combing these forums a bit, but I'm seeking your knowledge as my scenario might be a bit tricky.

When I work, I usually leave from DFW (Dallas, TX), about half the month (3 to 9 flights), sometimes American but most often European destinations (usually operated by *Alliance airlines), and flight upgrades and reward/redemption is most important to me. So far, I've found out I am flying a lot of Luftansa, SAS, United and USAirways. Very rarely Delta or British Airways/KLM. (And I greatly dislike American Airlines!)

What do you think I should do?

Feedback most appreicated.

Lionel

As a DJ myself, welcome to FT.

To start, you should pick one airline per alliance and credit your miles within that alliance to that carrier. Which one you pick should depend on what kind of tickets you buy and what kind of redemption you'll want to do. Tickets in different fare classes will earn different % of actual miles flown via different carriers. For instance, if you choose Lufthansa as your *A carrier, they may only give 25% credit for deeply discounted coach tickets. If United or US Airways would give you 100% credit, then it makes more sense to credit those flights to United/US. My guess is you'll find it most rewarding to credit to UA/US, AA/BA and DL. But you'll need to think about what types of redemptions you want, also. Do you want 2 tickets in coach to Miami for a bunch of long weekends or 2 tickets to Koh Samui Thailand in first class? If you tell people a little bit more about your goals then we can all be of more help!

I like DJs - what type of music (house?).

Have a link? What destinations in Europe do you play?

Hey hey

I've chosen US Airways to store my SAS, and AA for OneWorld. I fly economy most of the time. As for redemption, I prefer upgrades on the long hauls, and the occasional extra ticket to a stateside location.
