There is no way to know ahead unless someone else here has booked an Air Canada ticket. As you know, most direct airline purchases qualify for the 1.5 redemption plus 10%. This is not a feature to call Barclays on either.

Southwest qualified some time ago, but I recently tried hotels.com and it didn't qualify, so I booked via Priceline instead, and this qualified.

For those still holding this card, a negative development - I noticed Express Deals transactions were no longer posting 5x rewards, on 2x. They still redeem for 3.3%, but they don't reward 5x. I contacted customer service and after much back & forth the only transactions which are eligible for 5x rewards are Name Your Own Price purchases on Priceline.com. But - Priceline discontinued the Name Your Own Price feature, so effectively it appears there are no transactions eligible for 5x rewards. I'm still waiting for CS to reply to that observation...

Mmm, I have only recently done VIP negotiated prepaid (which doesn't have 5x expectations on the old card). It was agoda underlying deal, but that is not unusual.
With the newer card, it is obvious they want people off the older card, so I don't expect any priceline purchases to have anything above 2x at this time.
It seems no one with the old card has tried seeing if the Precheck or Global Entry gets credited, but I am guessing it is programmed only for the new card.
I mean I too find it bizarre too that someone did programming to remove the 5x credit on express deals.

Has anyone been able to redeem online recently?
My last successful pay yourself back redemption was August 21. Since later in August, attempted redemptions receive a confirm screen, but none have actually gone through.
I opened a case with a Barclays CSR on this in early September, and they acknowledged it was a programming error rolled out during an update. No follow up since then, and same error shows up today.

So now I'm reasonably confident that it's a weird, one-off glitch tied to this transaction. Will follow up if anything else like it occours.
