Credit Card Application Rules

Searched, did not find.

Most of the action in the MileBuzz forum is credit card bonuses. Some people know credit card issuer's rules for multpile credit applications, but others do not (me). I'd like to keep an updated list of stated/implied issuer's rules for credit card applications. Please contribute as I am lacking in complete knowledge, and I will add this this post.

Chase:

- 1 app every 30 days

Citi:

- 2 apps every 60 period

Moved to more appropriate forum.

This may be a battle of futility since their are so many "stories" out there about people's experiences. What works for me won't work for someone else. One thing I've learned is that there are no hard-and-fast rules. Reps tell different stories. And there are so many variables: age of your credit, income, total debt, debt ratio, etc. I wish it were more simple.

Example: Chase is every 2-3 months for me "usually". In the past I have gotten two Chase cards in one month. I couldn't now with two existing Chase cards. The CITI churn is over for most "previous cardholders" (personal cards) but business cards seem to be churnable every 3-4 months. I've read different stories.

Somewhat related question. If one never had a Chase Southwest credit card is it possible to apply for both the SW personal and SW business card from Chase on the same day to get a potential 100,000 SW points. Does it matter in what order the applications are submitted. Thanks for helping as I am trying to maximize the SW 50,000 point offer before it disappears.

The number of AMEX cards one can have

A number of people have been wondering the number of american express cards one can have. I recently sent them an email through my secure message center to find out how many cards we could have since i already have four, and this was the response i got.;)

"there is no limit about the number of Card you can have under your name. However, approval of the Card applications depending upon various factors, like your credit rating, your previous account history.

However, to have an accurate information if your application will be approved or not, please call our New Accounts Department at 877-399-3083 (Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - midnight and Saturday 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. EST). A representative will not only provide information you are looking for but will also process your application for a new Card."

I think they have different buckets that have limits. I applied for a blue, approved instantly, I then immediately applied for a Clear, denied instantly for maximum number of cards, then immediately applied for Hilton, instant approval.

So if you get an instant denial for maximum number of cards, try applying for a different card. You've already taken an inquiry so you might as well keep trying to get something for it.
