50,000 after $3,000 spend:
https://www.capitalone.com/credit-cards/travel-and-miles/

Capital One usually does a hard pull with all three credit bureaus.
If you have a security freeze on your report, they generally will not allow you to submit a code for this report to be viewable.

If you've held this card before, it looks like you can get this bonus again. Data points: 1, 2. YMMV

My wife and I applied for the Spark card. Both denied. 800+ FICO, nothing frozen. Both of us are at least 16/24. Tightening down or just too many cards?

Just sent an email to CEO email where others have gotten a reply to reconsider approval. [email protected]
Both myself and husband got letters saying too few or no balances on revolving credit cards, income insufficient ( $110k) and too many recent opened accounts, both of us have scores close to 800 .

ETA no response.. guess that email is for credit line increases , husband received letter that repeated what the email had said. I did not get the letter.

I've never had this card, and considering it for the bonus, but am wondering if three hits to my credit report are worth $500 (which is, essentially what the math comes down to). I have decent credit (around 700, and steadily improving) and do carry a balance, but have never paid a bill late and have no collections on my account. It sounds like I'm the kind of customer they want (I pay on time but carry a balance), but am worried that my credit score might result in a denial.

Also hoping someone can clarify regarding redemptions - do you need to redeem points for the full value of a purchase? Are there tiers? e.g. I read early in the thread that you need 60k points to redeem for anything for $350, etc but haven't been able to find if that's changed in the 5 years since those posts were made. Would appreciate more details regarding redemption from those who have the card.

Actually, it's only one hit to each of the 3 credit bureaus which is very different. A future lender looking at any one of your credit reports will only see 1 hard pull.

You didn't ask so forgive the momentary commentary, please consider focusing only on cards that offer 0% introductory APR until you can pay off the balances in full.

Did you get any response back from CEO yet?

Nope, like I added yesterday from my post on the 13th that email contact was for credit line increases, I don't expect their decision on denial on the card to change due to too many recently opened accounts.

Capital One Venture (50K offer) - Denied, Warning

First time poster and first credit card experience with Capital One. I've been receiving targeted solicitations from CO almost weekly for years. Received one yesterday. I decided to apply for the Venture 50k offer. Denied!! Reason: number of bank cards tradelines opened in the last 24 months. I am over 800, perfect credit history. I hold a total of 5 cards (3 renewed this year). I am currently at 4/24. Never been denied for credit. So why am I their targeted customer? Well this was a horrible credit mistake. Warning folks.

It's not all that surprising. I applied last week and was declined, even though I knew I had little to no chance. 8/24 and 800+ FICO. I figured I'd roll the dice on the higher offer. I was also declined for Barclay's Arrival+ earlier in the month.

The fact that a bank's marketing department targets you has no bearing on whether or not their underwriting department will approve you.

Knowing you had no chance?

Anyone with an 800+ FICO should expect to be approved for a Capital One card at a high limit (unless you're over 1/6). I would've been more shocked at a denial than anything. We're not exactly talking about the JP Morgan Reserve here.

Forgive the ignorance, but if it's only one hard credit pull, why does it matter that they pull from all three bureaus? Last I checked, my reports from all three bureaus were pretty much identical.

Regarding balances, I do have some 0% APR cards and have recently refinanced some cc debt while I'm slowly paying off the balance (they are my moving costs from moving to my current place of residence), but I also spend about $1000/month on bills, groceries, transport, other expenses, etc that I pay off immediately after spending, and I figure I might as well earn some miles/points on purchases I'm making anyway. If I spent $3k in 3 months just doing regular spend, I don't see a good reason not to earn a bonus doing so unless I have a good reason to think I wouldn't get approved for the card in the first place.

It would be usual for your reports to show the same accounts, because all major lenders report all personal accounts to all three bureaus.

It would be rare for all three reports to show the same number of inquiries, because most lenders pull from only one bureau per application (because inquiries cost money).

I haven't received the denial reason in the mail yet, but I suspect it will say something about the number of inquiries and accounts in the last x months. I would have been pleasantly surprised had I been approved--even with my stats.

It shouldn't matter--unless you're a *very* frequent credit card churner and are trying to manage your inquiries.

You appear disciplined so you should be fine. Just don't put any new spend on the card(s) that are carrying balances. Put your monthly spend on card(s) that you pay your monthly statement balances in full.

Totally surprised at getting a call this morning. Didn't seem to be a supervisor, she just repeated the reasons I had received in the mail.
2 out of the three did not make sense to me and I didn't have a satisfactory answer. Husband in the same situation.

so no card for us.

Just circling back on this one last time as I received the letter from CapOne. The one and only reason for my denial for this card was pretty much what I suspected:

"Based on your credit report from Trans Union, number of bank cards tradelines opened in the last 24 months"

C.O pretending they're on the same level as Chase apparently.
