50,000 after $3,000 spend:

Capital One usually does a hard pull with all three credit bureaus.
If you have a security freeze on your report, they generally will not allow you to submit a code for this report to be viewable.
If you've held this card before, it looks like you can get this bonus again. Data points: 1, 2. YMMV

i'm new to air miles as i havent flow in decades. however now i have a reason to fly and did so 6 times in 2018. i read the fine print in the venture card and just wanted to confirm my understanding of using points (and thus making it worth applying for the card).
from what i gather i just make my normal flight arrangements as i always have thru the airline site, then i can go back and apply the rewards points after the airline charge is posts. they gave the example of 200 dollar flight needing 20000 points. therefore obviously 75000 points would get me a few flights as my flights are usually around 200 to 300 RT. so this would be 2 or 3 free flights which is a big savings for me.
also id have to do the math to pay one of those processor sites 2.5% to pay my mortgage/car payment etc thru cap 1 but that would really help me rack up the miles quickly.
------
separate question: can you make reservations thru the cap 1 site and if so, are they merely current mirrors of the airline's pricing just there for our convenience. thanks

If you want to apply points to air ticket purchases, I think there are some better cards out there --
It looks like the CapOne Venture promo now is 75,000 points after $5,000 in spend which isn't bad -- basically $750 of travel credits. First year no AF, but then $95. The Venture card was a great deal a few years ago when the sign-up bonus matched the applicant's FF miles holdings. For me that was a bonus worth about $1000, which was the cap.
Wells Fargo's propel card earns 3% on travel and restaurant purchases with no AF. The current bonus is 30,000 points after $3,000.
I got my CapOne Venture card when they ran the match your miles program matching up to 100,000 FF points basically $1000 bonus plus 10,000 more points for I think it was $1000 spend in the first few months.
I've never tried to use the CapOne site to book travel, I'm not sure you can.
And I can't see paying a bill that will charge you more that 2% to boost your miles earning, unless maybe for the sign up bonus.

yes the CC trick to pay mortgage would only be for the sign up bonus. if there are other better cards then i guess ill have to look around a bit more. Spirit's FF miles are a joke (they only give you half the miles) so that never comes in to play in any calculations for me. just trying to earn something for 'nothing' for what i'm doing already. i do have to do some breakeven analysis to see if the 95 fee is worth it indeed. i can easily do normal charges of 1000 a month on the card without blinking but thats only 20 bucks off a flight so probably wouldnt be worth it after a year . if my math is correct

If you are using CapOne miles at a 2% redemption rate to pay for flights, why wouldn't you get the Citi Double Cash card and get 2% cash-back with no annual fee, then you have full flexibility of how you redeem and a better value since there is no annual fee.

good way of thinking about that. or could cancel cap 1 after using the sign up bonus. i just got a 5% gas card and thats very nice not quite sure either if cap one is easier to get but regardless that 95 fee would really take a chunk out of my normal spending.

I keep the venture 2% card because I've never paid the AF. Waived the first year and then every year when the AF hits, I call and ask about a retention offer. Always get the "one-time" benefit, AF gets credited back within 2 days of my calling. Might change now that the AF has gone up. When I don't get the waiver, I'll drop the card.

so now i have a quandry. i didnt realize you can upgrade cap one cards. i can get the venture one without any pulls and the same terms as my current card (but i dont get the sign up bonus). it would get rid of the annual fee so that is nice. but my quandry is that ill probably put only less than 500 per month thru the card. and 1.25 technically is less than the 1.5% cash im currently getting. but of course gotta pay that 39 AF
i guess i could see if the citi 2x will approve me because that would be the best and most flexible. agreed?

Venture & VentureOne miles transfer to partners
This functionality is now live. Minimum 1,000 CapOne miles with increments of 100 above that. DP: I just did a transfer to Flying Blue and the transfer was instantaneous.

CapitalOne has no way of knowing if you are carrying a balance on cards from other issuers. They can only see if the other issuers are reporting a balance. That's different, and it does not mean paying finance charges.

I don't understand the difference you're making between "carrying" and "reporting". I charge 2-3k per month on cards but always pay the statement balance. Cap One doesn't like that.

I don't know where you got that from but Capital One and all other cards have no issue with you paying statement in full every month.

If you are paying all of your accounts early, such that the statements always show a zero balance, that might cause you to be declined, but paying the statement balance in full to avoid paying interest is invisible to other issuers and cannot be the basis for any decision.
