Airport Club Access

I am considering getting a Platinum Card from Amex primarily for club access. I fly Continental 95% of the time and they are dropping them next year. I am considering the Continental Presidents Club MC. Anyone have any thoughts? Should I get the Platinum, get the bonus MR points then switch next year when the change takes place?

I chose the Amex Plat over Chase's CO card. It will be gone next year and you would have to migrate to the United RCC card. So either way you will have to change cards. IMHO, Amex benefits are better than UA or CO.

It all depends on your actual goal and the cost benefit.

Glad I made the upgrade to Amex Platinum

I recently upgraded to Amex Platinum from Gold Rewards Plus after they courted me for more than a year. The additional $300 fee each year was a bitter pill to swallow. However, I was booking a cruise on a Cunard ship in January and was able to get a $600 onboard credit for the cruise, which is GREAT plus the $100 travel credit. It's already paid for itself.

Then, I was headed to Seattle for a 10-day trip with my father (another cruise) so I took him to the Admirals Club before going through security. I had to FedEx something and figured they would have what I needed. They did! While we were there drinking freshly squeezed OJ, coffee and muffins, I got a text saying that our flight was delayed and then another almost immediately saying it was later. I walked over to the agent who said she was about to page me and was aware of the situation. She monitored it for a while and was able to reroute me. The initial flight ended up being canceled and I got to let someone else deal with all while I sat back and relaxed. Boy, am I ever glad I made the switch!

That sounds like a solid plan. The Presidents Club MC includes EliteAccess on Continental, but since you fly heavily with CO, you probably already receive the elite benefits. Also, Presidents Club MC includes a full Presidents Club membership which allows access to United Red Carpet Clubs. United is not included in the airport club program with Amex Platinum.
