Mexicana Platinum Visa Card Issues
Hi all...I am hoping someone can help or lend some advice with some issues I am having with the Mexicana Platinum Visa card and the whole Mexicana switch from Mexicana frequenta to GO loyalty programs. It seems to really have messed with my credit card's ability to earn points at a decent rate. I completely understand the 2:1 transfer and the deadline back last year to get the 1:1 transfer from Frequenta to GO. I set up a GO account last fall when instructed to by Mexicana to do so. However, here is my frustration with this switch that I ultimately just found out today when trying to use my miles/points. See, I have a Mexicana credit card from Bank of America which earns 1 mile/point for every dollar spent. However, those points/miles are dumped into my Frequenta account I just found out (thought they would switch to GO when Mexicana set it up). When I spoke with B of A customer service about this today, she said that there were no intentions of having the Mexicana credit card points now go to the GO program, but instead stay with Frequenta. What pisses me off is that I can almost swear (somebody maybe can clarify for me) that redemption for Frequenta tix increased in poiints/miles shorty before the GO transition (probably to incentivize people to use GO, among other reasons). So now a R/T from LAX (where I live) to Mexico is now 50k points on Frequenta, and only 30k on GO. However, you guys can see where this is going.....I now view this as I either have to spend $50k on my Mexicana credit card for a free R/T through Frequenta, or $60k on my Mexicana credit card for a free R/T through GO. IMO, this is ridiculous for credit card and customer loyalty. The whole reason I got my Mexicana credit card is that I head down to Mexico a lot to surf. I have used it as my primary card for sometime now in hopes of reaping these rewards, but now it fels like I am getting screwed. I have 44k GO points and 15k frequenta. Just for comparison, I looked at AA LAX to SJD for points required and it was 35k. Obvoiusly, an AA credit card program gives you 1:1 points for dollars spent, so this just isn't making sense to me. Originally, the $99 annual companion voucher was incentive, but not when I have to accrue so many points.
Can somebody give me some advice here? Do I ditch the Mexicana C/C and get myself a AA one? (would prefer not to because the Mexicana card has a high credit limit) Or am I missing something abvious and am just too frustrated to see? Is there someone I can talk to at either Mexicana or BofA that anyone here suggests or has done so already? Has anyone else with this same card run into the same dilemma? Hope I'm not asking some critical questions that have already been answered in other threads. I did some searching and was pretty unsuccessful on finding anything. BTW....thanks for welcoming me to the group! Trevor... |
Hello again....I did some poking around in case anyone is interested in hearing more about the Mexicana Frequenta program. I just spent about 45 minutes on the phone with Mexicana trying to get some answers to my questions and find out how to make sense of this whole program.
First things first....I was informed by their CS supervisor that there were no intentions by Mexicana to have Frequenta Miles from the B of A card eventually move to dropping into their GO program. This means that for all of you out there like me that still have a Frequenta card, you'll have to settle for using 50k points for a free R/T ticket from US to Mex. However, what I did learn is that Mexicana is partnering with a new financial institution which will issue a new card in the near future for use with the Mexicana GO program. So, if you are a loyal Mexicana cardmember and want to get rewards like you used to, then hold on until the new one comes out and make the switch. There was no date he gave me, but he did say in the near future. The whole reason I started looking into this is because my wife and I are having our first child in June and are planning to get in one last vacation of solitude b/t the 2 of us before our lives change significantly. As I was saying in my post above, I have enough points combined in both Frequenta and GO for 2 free R/Ts....however given the lame 2:1 transfer ration of Frequenta to GO, I come up a few short. The C/S manager suggested I contact the person in charge of administering the points transfer and plead with them to make an exception to do a 1:1 transfer this time. He says that they have on occasion made exceptions. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed and give my best story. I'll let you know how it goes in case anyone is interested. |
Welcome to Flyertalk.
This thread, which started in 2008, explains that Mexicana is operating both Frecuenta and Mexicanago with different earning and redemption partners. While there are some incentives to switch from Frecuenta to Mexicanago these appear to be one-time offers, and any partners (such as credit cards) linked to Frecuenta need to be redeemed through that program -or- transferred 2:1 to Mexicanago http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/other...xicana-go.html |
Thank you....yes I was reading that thread you mention yesterday while searching for further information.
Sorry if I am dredging up old info |
