Did the EU drop the in Flight Mask Requirement?
I thought I read that the EU has lifted the requirement for wearing a mask when flying to Europe. Is this true?

I've traveled all over during the pandemic and have stopped bothering trying to keep up with the ever changing mask rules. Just look at what the people around you are doing.

Varies by airline and country, I did a big Europe tour last week and here are my findings:
KLM ATL-AMS: masks optional
Vueling AMS-FLR: Not only masks are mandatory but you need the FFP2 masks (how convenient there is a vending machine next to the check in counter selling them at 6Euros a pair )
Austrian FLR-VIE-BUD: masks required but not super strongly enforced
Swiss BUD-ZRH-SFO: masks optional
Luckily the long flights is optional, which makes sleeping a little better. The short flights I did not mind
KLM ATL-AMS: masks optional

Austrian FLR-VIE-BUD: masks required but not super strongly enforced

Unfortunately the EU has recommended that the mask requirement be lifted, but thankfully it is up to each country (and perhaps airline?) to make their own rules (it usually goes together with their public transit rules in general).

KLM and all other dutch airlines had already dropped the masking requirement (they simply refused to enforce this as of march 23, as a clear civil disobience statement, which included press coverage and a detailed mutual statement by their communications departments). Also, enforcement at AMS has dropped to almost zero in the past few weeks.
But for those that want to "follow the rules", there is good news: the official mandate for NL will end at the end of this week as a follow-up to the new EASA/EDC advisory, as published yesterday afternoon on the official website of the department of infrastructure - source here
So, no more required masks at AMS or on planes as of Saturday May 21.
Why it takes them a week to "implement" this change is everyone's guess.
