That has been the case for a while, but I would not going to Vienna city (i live 45 minutes from the airport, in the opposite direction ) so that's not a problem. The general Austrian rules are what bothers me.

Edit: Reading the whole article I now see that there is a statement from the federal government that they don't intend to reintroduce masks from September. Great news!

VIE is NOT in Vienna but in Schwechat, so Vienna city rules don't apply.

Is Turkey 100% back to normal (no entry restrictions, no masks, no nothing)? I'm seeing conflicting information but I suspect some of it may be outdated.

According to Visit Turkeys website https://www.visasturkey.com/travel-a...-restrictions/

There have been no vaccine requirements since June 1 2022, the only thing they seem to want now is a passenger locater form.

Masks were also dropped around the end of May so it looks to be as much like normal as you can get.

Was in Turkey in end of June (Norwegian passport) no passenger locator forms etc required then. Turkish Airlines does not require masks where the destination country does not require them.

Apparently the Germans have finally figured it out and will no longer require masks on planes from the 23rd on.

Note that this, even if approved, only concerns planes, not other transportation. I would still avoid Germany as a destination, but it definitely opens up itineraries on LH (which isn't bad since they tend to be cheaper than LX/OS).

I did specifically say "on planes" but yes, you're right they will still require them on public transit.

Could you clarify date (month) and provide a source if possible, please?

September 23rd. The original story on AP:

The German government plans to drop a requirement for people to wear masks on flights to and from the country, though the health minister said Tuesday that it could be reimposed if coronavirus cases rise sharply.

The rules mandating masks on flights run through Sept. 23, and the smallest party in the coalition government, the libertarian Free Democratic Party, has pressed for an end to them. The initial draft for this fall’s rules foresaw an obligation to wear N95-type masks on planes as well as long-distance trains and buses.

The devil will be in the details. The law planned for the Federal Minister to re-impose masks if necessary, as it says "if coronavirus cases rise sharply". To put a such a federal mandate in law it must explicitly write the condition, which will have to be measurable, so some form of clear target. This target is not decided yet.

There's a lot of evidence of the negative cognitive effects of Covid infection in this thread.

You avoid Germany because you have to ::checks notes:: wear a mask on the bus and train? You can't be serious....though I am glad you do.
