Covid test [before travel from USA with no symptom]

Is it possible to get one if you arenít sick? Iíd like to get one done as close as possible to my July 16 departure date to LHR. This is so I can rest assured I wonít infect my mother.

Search for nearby asymptomatic testing. Even if you don't find it today, you may in a couple weeks.

Donate blood, platelets, or plasma with the American Red Cross:

https://www.redcrossblood.org/donate...y-testing.html

Discover Your Antibody Test Status When You Give Blood

For a limited time, the American Red Cross will test all blood, platelet and plasma donations for COVID-19 antibodies as an additional health service to our donors. This testing may provide critical insight into whether donors may have possibly been exposed to this coronavirus. The Red Cross is committed to helping others in meaningful ways during this pandemic.

So you are flying as often as you can which increases your chances of being exposed to the virus. And then you will visit your mom in the UK? Sounds like a great idea to me!! I assume that you will self quarantine when you get there after being on a plane with a couple hundred people.

According to this thread, anyone entering the UK must self-quarantine for 2 weeks:
UK Government announces 14 day quarantine for arrivals

This includes people who live in the UK (both UK citizens and residents) returning from overseas.

You went to a large group even , right? https://www.dallascounty.org/covid-1...-locations.php

But you honestly need two negative tests about 2 weeks apart. Or if your covid test is negative get the serum antibody test.

That's the antibody test.

OP needs the C-19 test which reports whether he currently has the virus.

The answer in OP's situation is going to be location-specific. Many places provide walk-up testing without the need of a doc's order or anything else. Others don't.

Depending on your PCP, she may do it as a service to patients. All depends on where one is and what's available locally.

But, as others note, OP is presumably quarantining for 14 days on arrival, so close to nil chance he infects his mother.

It depends on local availability of test supplies, and perhaps on insurance coverage, if you do not want to pay the bill yourself. Some people report being told "the test is free" but then they receive a bill for "processing." Insurance companies may set requirements for conditions under which the costs are covered.

Theoretically, "anyone who wants a test can get a test," but that may not actually happen. Covid testing is usually indicated if you have been exposed (went to a protest or rally )or have a cough or feel ill), or live with/care for a vulnerable individual. Some travelers to some areas need "recent proof of negative Covid test." In my neighborhood you can be tested for any of those reasons.

I’m only going for a week and staying at my mothers. I’m free to go home if I’m there less than 14 days.

It's going to be a somewhat reclusive visit if you follow the quarantine rules!
The people youíre staying with do not need to stay at home, unless they travelled with you. Avoid contact with them and minimise the time you spend in shared spaces, like kitchens, bathrooms and sitting areas.
It is important to avoid contact with other people in your home in order to reduce the risk of transmitting coronavirus. You should stay in a well-ventilated room with a window to the outside that can be opened, separate from other people in your home.If you can, you should use a separate bathroom from the rest of the household. If you have to share these facilities, regular cleaning will be required after each person has used them. Make sure you use separate towels from the other people in your house, both for drying yourself after bathing or showering and for hand-hygiene purposes.

Iím not sure how long it lasts but the medical practice I use is offering tests

We belong to One Medical, a quasi-boutique practice that has offices throughout the country. At least up until a couple of weeks ago, they were offering free 30 day trial memberships that would entitle you to get the COVID-19 test at one of their locations. If thereís one near you it might be worth checking out.
