Using Connect Upgrades Certificates with UA
 

Hi! I'm trying to book a couple of flights next year in May with my partner, 1) SJO - BCN transiting in ORD and 2) BRU - SJO transiting in EWR and would like to use my global connect certificates (regional & global).

A couple of questions,
1. I saw in an earlier post that for the certificates to work you need to book from PTY. Is this correct? Does this mean I would have to book (A) SJO-PTY and PTY-ORD-BCN and (B) BRU-EWR-PTY & PTY-SJO?
2. Can I use the upgrade certificates for me and my partner if we're both in the same reservations
3. I checked on UAs website and for now PZ=0 in all those flights. What's are the odds that PZ>0 for those flights later?

1) No, you do not need to book from PTY
2) Yes. To expand, can use for anyone - cert holder does not need to be on the reservation

You might have an issue trying to use Certs that expire at the end of Feb, for a flight in May. YMMV with this

Can I use Connect Global Upgrade certificates if purchased award ticket in X class in UA metal?

I want to use it for a flight between BRU-EWR

Copa website says I can’t use regional certificates with X class but says nothing regarding global certificates

I did not know this about # 2.
As for # 3, yes, you can, and it's not YMMV. I have used certs ending this Feb for upgrades in the following March and September.

for the route BRU-EWR you need a global certificates. Remembers only can redeem until 24 hours before of departure flight.
Some time open space PZ the same day flight but is not possible redeem on same day.

Cannot use in X Fare, but you can try in Connectmiles callcenter

It's probably because they did not have availability at that time. If there were to have been availability, you could have definitely used the certificates.

Adding to this, can vouchers be used for 016 tickets or does the ticket have to be issued by CM?

you can use in Copa or United ticket only. Not in codeshare ticket. If book a Copa flights but is a United ticket you can use.
you cannot use in United codeshare with other airline.
for use need call Copa call center
