Panama Stopover

I'm a little confused how the stopover in Panama works. I tried calling but I don't think we understood each other.

I would like to go from EWR to PTY to MBJ and back home. Am I able to do this with going straight from MBJ to EWR or will I need to stop back in PTY and from there go to EWR. The agent on the phone seemed to say no and told me there are only Thursday and Sunday flights from MBJ to EWR. She tried directing me to where I can find this on the website but I only saw it with a stopover. Has anyone done this recently that can advise me?

Thanks!

Copa doesn’t fly to EWR. That would be the first hurdle :)

Lol, how about if we swap that for JFK?

JFK-PTY-MBJ

And reverse on the trip back :)

So there's no way I can just do MBJ - JFK. I figured but don't understand why I was told on the phone that I can. Oh well. Thanks for your help!

AA, Delta and JetBlue all do this route

Yes, but I was hoping to take advantage of Copa's Panama stopover program

Your posts are a bit confusing. Do you want a stopover in Panama or not? In one direction or in both?

The stopover program allows you to stay for more than 24 hours in Panama City, not skip a connection in Panama

I see. So basically I need to stop in Panama both ways just I can increase my stay in Panama either of those times.

It's still a little confusing then why I was told I can only fly to NY specific days since they seem to have multiple flights a day.

You need to stop/connect in Panama both directions if you want to fly with Copa. There is a stopover program if you want to stay for more than 24 hours in Panama

PTY-MBJ is only 3 times a week, hence why you were probably told that they only operate your flights on certain days (even though yes they do operate PTY-JFK numerous times daily)
