Copa same day change/standby rules?
 

Hi there,

Does anyone know Copa's same day change/standby rules for earlier/later flights? For United*G? For J ticket? For Y ticket?

I see a flight LIM-PTY-MDE, which has an 11 hour layover in MDE. PTY-MDE leaves every hour the next day and I'd like to go on a later flight, extending the stay to a 20-24hour layover. This certain fare is at around $100 usd, while the rest around $250 usd. So I'm curious about same day change/standby. fees/rules.

If J ticket allows same day change and standby to earlier/later for free(like LATAM PY fares), makes it worth looking into buying J outright as well for flexibility. But if *G or certain Y fares allows this, might just grab the cheap Y.

the $100 fare is probably a basic fare FYI (L, A, T, E)

*G gives no extra benefits here, only actual status with Copa might

It is $35 more for classic fare which for the free same day change, definitely worth it... Cheaper to buy this one and same day change it for free. Noted for Copa moving forward with classic fares. Free SDC is great value Also nice to know biz fare gets free same day change. I like the 24 hold too, I bought both the J fare and the classic fare until I decide what to do.

Unsure exactly how same day standby works, but I think it’s if the fare class (specific fare bucket) is not available, then you go onto same day standby instead of a confirmed same day change. You will get cleared at the gate

I have never done this myself, as I have been able to get them to open up my fare bucket, clear me into it and then instantly upgrade me (when there is space available of course) due to my status. They normally need to call ticketing if the flight has not closed. The female wizards that work in SFO will just wait until checkin closes (60 mins before departure) and then reopen the flight quickly, all fare buckets, select mine, and put me in it, then upgrade to J. Might be against internal policies, unsure, but it’s a far quicker way of doing it. Only issue with this that it might not work at busy times due to having to boot it from checkin area (rather than the gate) through security etc to get to the gate

For a later flight, only way to do free same day change on a biz ticket is at the airport 24 hours departure? No way through check in, app or booking?

Been trying to call them, but it puts me on hold for around 30 min-60 min before disconnecting . Happened three times...

The flight shows up on Edreams for like $30 less. It's a J fare. Safe to book? Not sure what to do :(
