If it's weather related I doubt they put you up anywhere. Would have to be mechanical.
Best to have the AMEX Plat and trip interruption protection.
PTY is very cheap anyway 5 star hotels are $100 or so a night and plenty of 4 star hotels $70 or less. 25 minute cab ride into the city center. (but be prepared for it to take a lot longer particularly back to the airport) I stayed at the Trump hotel it was fantastic (it's changed names now but not sure what it is)

2 Years ago our MDE to PTY flight was delayed until 10pm. So half the flight missed our ongoing connections. COPA put us up in a 4 star hotel. I can't remember the name, but I think it had the word ART in it. Also had a casino there too, pretty nice.

Think that’s the Autograph Collection hotel in Bonvoy’s portfolio maybe the Sortis?

Was it Aloft possibly? It's a Marriott brand, and its logo and the sign on the building (in Atlapa) can be a little hard to distinguish. It's connected to a Sheraton with a casino, and right next to the highway to the airport.

That's the one! It had a real funky layout and I liked it since it was close to the highway, but I still got to explore the city that night.
