Is 2024 based on some sort of construction schedule? Or a projection based on when demand will require more gates?

It was relatively close to opening, but it's obvious they're not going to need it for a while. Copa is projecting < 40 flights/day when it restarts. I suppose they'll close half of the existing terminal until traffic picks up.

I was being sarcastic (hence the /s). My guess is as best as yours. I had a connecting flight from T2 back in early 2019, I assume it was a dry run as there were many officials on hand as we deplaned.

March 2021

At least that's the latest extension on the construction contract. A nice image of the check-in area here. Who knows when they might be put in service.

Seems UA is making the move to Terminal 2 as well. It also states that baggage handling will be much improved. Waiting for baggage for arriving CM flights was often a lengthy wait.

The image in that link is quite old. The new Metro branch to the airport connects to the right end of the new terminal and seems nearly complete.

I flew out of PTY on Tuesday afternoon (on an AF 787 that went tech Saturday night so almost 72 hours delayed) - the metro construction did seem quite complete. I hope I can use it the next time I am around which should be September.

New Lounge

.

Looks nice, and it seems they have food that doesn't come in a plastic wrapper. A friend visited and said it was pretty loud, with a lot of terminal noise bouncing up to that open layout.

Does anyone know where this pedestrian corridor is located? Is it at airside or landside?

https://panamatocumen.com/en/faqs

How is the connection between the terminals?
Terminals 1 and 2 are connected by a 170-meter-long pedestrian corridor.

It's airside. Here's a pic of the corridor, standing near gate 201 and looking toward terminal 1.

Krispy Kreme is definitely a major upgrade to the old Dunkin Donuts in Terminal 1.
