If you're buying the ticket yourself, I don't understand why you'd buy from Expedia, instead of CO.com just to be sure? Usually, this issue comes up when an agency has to book travel for business and can't or won't use the Continental website.

While I agree overall the changes are positive, yet I find there to be a large devaluation for Europe based members, it seems that all awards leaving europe have increased in value including Asia. I can't believe you can fly from New York to Singapore via FRA for less miles than FRA-SIN.
I am honestly a little disappointed, now to decide if I book tickets before October first or not. Very appreciated of the heads up though, truly world class communications from Continental. Cheers, Timo Whilst most of the changes are good news for US-based guys (& I also applaud Scott for his marketing nous in announcing these changes so early), the overall impact on us non-US based guys seems pretty negative. As xyzzy points out above (#27), there seems to be a drop from 200% to 125% in EQMs for pointy end fares, and the miles needed for reward tix to US (and let's fact it, we are unlikely to fly anywhere else on CO from Europe) have increased. I might benefit from the SDC free change, I guess, but that's about it. Looks like I'll find it very difficult to justify paying for the pointy end again (whether cash or reward) - and that saddens me greatly! Sorry to be negative when so many of you seem pleased - this is just my European perspective :( |

Also the connecting flights I specifically want are not offered on co.com. So I either have to do it through a travel agent, or by calling CO directly. Travel is not until Nov 05-12. But I'm not sure if the tickets have to be issued after Oct 27th, or if it's just travel after Oct 27. Does anyone know? |

Hi Everyone, I’ve edited my original post to make some clarifications about the front cabin earning changes. Specifically, I had erroneously left out B class, the EQM amounts (which will be 150% EQMs for F, C, J, D, Z, Y and B for all members worldwide), and the fact this applied to travel on Continental. Sorry for the omission. Continental.com will be updated accordingly. Here are some answers to your other questions.

The upgrade chart is for only CO/CM/CS flights. Does this mean that CO will not be participating in the *A upgrade program? Or even upgrades with their new BFF UA?

Also, there is a typo on the EasyPass page. In the ** details for the routing note via the USA you have the word "included" where you probably mean to have "include." And, if I may, I'd suggest/request that you change that to read "via" rather than "include." I spent a few minutes just now trying to figure out if USAir was more expensive for any particular reason. :o

Question:
I have a RT Reward ticket to Germany for next May/June 2010. Outbound on AF to MUC, then MUC to TXL on AF (via CDG), then return from TXL to USA on CO. This was a 50K reward, with one stopover. The new chart shows 55K for USA-Europe Saverpass. If I wanted to change a segment - say MUC to TXL on a nonstop LH - do I have to completely reticket and pay the 5k extra miles? Same if I want to change the IAD-CDG-MUC on AF to a non-stop IAD-MUC on LH or UA?

2. What is the time frame for confirming Platinum Elite same day ticket changes for no fee? 24 hours before, anytime before travel? Does same fare class need to be available?

Scott, the only unanswered question is confirmation that the earning levels will remain the same (25 EQM/30 EQP, 50 EQM/60 EQP, 75 EQM/90 EQP).

I wonder. Upper Class on VS is one of three, not two cabins, because of Premium Economy. The same applies to some of NZ, BD and SK longhaul services, where Premium Econ is one of three cabins. In all those cases, however, the forward cabin is clearly C/J class, and not F - just like CO's BF class. So it would be wrong to charge them as an F redemption, which I hope CO won't try to do. The problem is there is some ambiguity in the regulations as they stand.

I am very pleased to see that reward travel to Tel Aviv is back down to 75K.
When Continental raised it to 90K in January, I planned to collect United miles and use them on the Continental flight to Tel Aviv for 75K. Luckily I didn't collect so many. I only booked one 90K award this year, and was going to book two others this week. Of course I will now wait until October 27. Any chance we can get the 75K before October 27 (for a flight in December)?

Correct me if I'm wrong here...
I don’t like the change in the redeposit fees for PE. Currently, I can put several passengers in one reservation and not be charged to redeposit any of them because they were from my (PE) OP account. As the new changes read, “These fees will apply per customer instead of per reservation.” So I can redeposit my ticket without a fee, but others (even within my reservation and from my PE account) will be charged a redeposit fee. I do like the "no Saturday Night stay required" for saver pass domestic tickets!

This is effective October 27th. As in travel after Oct 27th? or Tickets issued after Oct 27th? If I buy a ticket TODAY for travel in November, on expedia in L-class will I get 100EQM? :) |
I'm very pleased with the elimination of 50% elite qualifying mileage penalty on discounted fares and the restoration of the 500-mile minimum. ^
I'm hoping that OnePass members flying on UA will earn a minimum of 100% elite qualifying miles on all fares and regardless of where the ticket was purchased and vice versa for MileagePlus members flying on CO. CO Insider, are you at liberty to shed further light on this? |

Stepping in from the UA side.
About the question of earning miles on discount fares when flying various *members. I would think that the deal for CO would be more or less the same as for UA pax, and some of the partners are much stingier that others. For a general idea, see the chart in the UA FAQ: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...y-partner.html Since the miles granted are the decision of the individual *airline, I would think the list will be very similar for CO pax. Even frequent fliers sometimes get tripped up, and the lack of miles on cheap LH fares has been a well-documented source of frustration and confusion to many MP members. On the issue of your *Gold card. LH in particular is adament about the need to have that card for admission into their Senator lounges. Maybe they'll find a way to temporarily let CO people in with their old CO card, but many people report having been turned away even when presenting other evidence of their status - BP, printout, etc. LH runs by the rules. Period. Don't expect to get let in without a card that has the *Gold logo on it. |

My take on it was that EQMs will remain at the current levels - at least for US members. B+ fares will earn EQMs at 150% (don't know about non-US based members.)
Elite Qualification for F, C, J, D, Z, Y and B will be 1.5 Elite Qualification Points (instead of 2) and the Elite Qualification Miles earned will be 150%. These changes will apply to all OnePass members worldwide for travel on Continental |

Thanks sbm12, looks like I left an important word out in my original post. If you are an Elite member, you will receive a new membership card by late Oct., which will reflect your Star Alliance elite level.
