What can you use ETC (Electronic Travel Certificates) for?

I have not flown CO for a few years and have a sizable amount of ETC. In addition to redeeming it for flights, I wonder if ETCs can be used in other stuff such as:

1 - baggage fees
2 - award taxes
3 - change fees
etc.

Thanks.

No to all 3. They can only be applied tothe purchase of a new revenue ticket. Nothing else.

Just curious, but how did you manage getting an ETC if not having flown CO for a few years??????

also I thought ETCs were good only 1 year from the date it was issued. Seems there might be a kind that is non-expiring?

When Citimiles significantly increased its redemption rules (from min 500 miles, no fee to min 2500 miles $39 fee), I cashed out the miles I saved over the years without knowing where I was going to go - just randomly booked a ticket.

I did it on CO because I used to fly CO a lot and am eagerly waiting for CO to join *A (I am *A Gold). For me, going to the southeast through IAH would be much better than doing UA through DEN or taking US from PHX.

I already did the "give us $150 additional" thing and exchanged 1 ticket. I still have quite a few hunderd dollars left. Since my first flight is this week and I don't have status yet on CO, I want to see if I can redeem it for the baggage fee. I guess not.

My understanding is that the date gets pushed back a year EACH TIME you redeem and get a new amount. Is that correct?

Thanks.
