When is it a good time to status match?

I've been a Plat with CO for years, and am already Plat for next year. I am based out of DTW where the new NW/Delta alliance is overwhelming the entire airport.

Recently I've noticed that CO's prices are higher than normal, and NW is always cheaper on the routes I favor. I don't usually mind paying a few extra dollars to get CO's service (I love the meals at mealtime, the upgrades, and the IFE) but now the prices are just getting to be too much. That, and the 737-900's w/o IFE made me think about possibly looking into a status match with NW/Delta. I'm a CO gal from way back and honestly do not care for NW, but I'm wondering if the merger with Delta might improve their service. That, and not having to change planes in most instances, has me wondering. Also, I'm losing my access to the NW Clubs in October so my PC membership won't be as important.

When I started with CO I was living in Houston so it made sense. I fell in love with their services and still love CO. But is it wrong of me to contemplate switching? Should I wait and see how things go with CO's new merger? I'd hate to switch now and then see that the new CO is better than ever.

I don't know anyone who has switched, but am curious about why people do it, if they regret it, and how difficult it is to do. Right now I think I'll wait and see how things go, but I'm still curious about people who have status matched to another airline and if they think it's worth it. Right now I'm just in the thinking phase, but could use some feedback.

Thanks!

Some people change due to travel patterns, cost, or just to see if the grass is greener. You can always match and compare them for yourself, especially since you are already requalified for plat. You can also read the NW and DL boards to see how people like the "New Global Airline"

Not at all. Business relationships change all the time. CO worked well for me for many years, now they're not my primary.

CO is not merging.

Many people switch all the time. Several on this board left CO and moved to other carriers as their primary. While people from other carriers moved in. Some moved in and then moved back out, and vice versa.

Everyone has their reasons.

Keep in mind by the end of '09 all of the 739s will have DirecTV service. Also, many say that the merger with DL has only worsened NW. Perhaps you could fly NW a few times and credit to CO (if you haven't already done so) to see how it is.

If you're interested in a status match to Delta send me a private message.
