You can view the upgrade standby list for your flights at http://www.continental.com/web/en-US...s/default.aspx or pda.continental.com if you'd like a simpler view.
Your position on the list has to do with your elite level, the elite level of others on the flight and your fare class. Hartmann, Very helpful link. I did not know about checking it that way thanks!!! Anyone know why the ability to check upgrade status would NOT show up on your itin once you check in? |

In addition to the link Hartmann provided, you can use http://pda.continental.com to check the list, either from a mobile device or a regular computer. You can use it while talking with the folks at the airport to make sure that your name appears on the list once they say they've added you. |
A quick question I wanted to put out there just came to me today about this trip. Some background though: I was upgraded as a Silver (first flight as a Silver FWIW) on the outbound DEN-IAH CO 498 on a 753. The u/g on the way back on Wednesday evening CO 399 did not happen (on a 739), and the standby list was pretty long for that flight.
Now getting to my question, I had a colleague on the trip with me that stated that the only reason I scored the u/g on the way out was because I was a first-time Silver and they wanted to show me the good stuff so that I stay hooked on CO. Does this seem correct? I don't really understand the reasoning behind that because I'm already a Silver so there's really nothing CO gains at this point by giving me an u/g as opposed to someone else. The colleague, who is also a Silver, did not get the u/g and he was like 6th on the stand-by list when the door closed. I received mine right as I checked in the day before...perhaps checkin time has something to do with it as well? |

He was wrong about first time silver comment :) you just won out based on fare class, checkin time or some other criteria based on the 'tie breaker' for silvers.
