Can I waitlist a different routing?
 

Sorry if the title is oddly worded, but I'm not sure how else to ask the question.

I'm headed from AUS to VCE on 9/18 using a saver award and currently have the following routing: AUS-IAH-LHR-CDG-VCE in business/businessfirst

I'd like to change to one of the following routings:
a) AUS-IAH-CDG-VCE or
b) AUS-IAH-AMS-VCE

Is it possible to waitlist for the IAH-CDG or IAH-AMS segments in BF even though those segments aren't part of my original itinerary? If it makes a bit of difference, I'm a platinum.

I have tried to do this on several occasions and have been told no, I cannot change to a different routing. One agent told me that if they waitlisted me, my original tickets would be canceled and I would be waitlisted for my entire trip.

Reward travel or purchased tickets?

Yes, you should be able to waitlist for them.

The key is making sure you have the connecting flights in line (AMS/CDG-VCE) to accommodate your travel if you clear the waitlists.
