CO250 on 6/22 diverted to ATL

I was on CO250 from IAH to RDU on Monday 6/22 when halfway through the flight most of our lights went out after the generator in the left engine was lost. A few minutes later I saw short stream of sparks coming from under the wing directly behind the engine, after which there was a much longer burst of sparks. I notified a FA who talked to the pilot then sat down in my seat to see if any more sparks were visible. Before the FA got up we began a steep turn and the captain notified us we'd be making a precautionary stop in ATL.

They had the welcome party set up along the runway and had us stop at the far end near the Delta hangars where fire trucks converged on us to make an inspection. We were escorted by fire trucks to the gate where we sat for a bit over an hour while they disconnected the generator. No damage to the engine was found and we were allowed to reboard. We continued on to RDU using the APU and landed about 4 hours late.

As a side note, the landing at RDU was very hard and most of the PAX were asleep so there were some gasps and half-screams as a lot of people were a little worried after we reboarded and thought something bad had happened.
