It all depends on what Revenue Management knows about a flight.

For example: I was on CO52 (IAH-EWR) this AM. There had been 6 upgrades of one kind or another at the T-3 days and FC was 18 of 25. Last night it was 18 of 25 with the same 6 upgrades in place. As boarding started it was the same 6 upgrades and 24 of 25 - there were seats sold at the last minute. After boarding there were 2 battlefields due to misconnects and FC went out Full. We ended up as 4 & 5 on the list - at least we had our exit row seats.

As boarding started there were 62 on the Upgrade Standby List and 100+ on the Flight Standby List.

You're in 1B. By the way, your seatmate, KOO,J, is a known barefoot toe picker and will slide his feet toward you on the bulkhead. Sorry.

If this was in fact a true statement, don't you think that if you weren't upgraded before T-24, you would be offered the opportunity to upgrade at early check-in?

Incidentally I purchased a last minute Y fare yesterday from JAX-EWR three hours prior to departure, and sat in the very back of the plane. I sure would have loved CO to hold off on upgrades to put me in one of those 8 F seats. It's hard to have it both ways.

Hey Bonehead...

Hey Bonehead -- have you used all your miles you won during the gameshow at CO DOIV?

Yeah, I was watchin'. That's some MAD knowledge of CO history and stuff you got goin' on there!

Ha ha...someone actually remembers me! I did good to qualify on the written test, but under the lights all the credit goes to mersk862, who was an absolute ANIMAL when it comes to Continental trivia (it helps that he was on the winning trivia bowl team in Massachusetts, I believe).

My contribution was convincing them to let us switch sides on the podium, because we couldn't hear Larry (which is why we, I mean mersk862, fell so far behind early).

I still have a bunch of miles, but I can justify mileage upgrades a bit more easily these days. I'm really waiting for *A so that I can fly SQ in C...

During this DEQM period, I've booked a number of flights from EWR, including trips to IAH, LAS, SAN, SJU, SEA etc. All were on weekends, and generally out Sat am with return Sun. So far I'm 100% EUA, most at the general EUA mark, but even with LAS & SAN at the 24 hr mark, I was given the upgrade on what appeared to be a fully booked F cabin (checking PDA prior to flight). At no time was I offered, or saw offered the 'buy up to F'. So maybe I've just been lucky, but thank you CO & EUA:D
