Food while sleeping? What is the protocol?
I flew LAS-EWR roundtrip this week. Economy out, First on the way back.
On the way out, my friend was woken up in a window seat (12A) when the breaded chicken came around. He didn't want it, and had to fall back asleep. On the 700am from LAS, I was in First. Woken up when they came around asking what we wanted. I was fast asleep, but managed to get out "no thank you, don't want breakfast." About 30 mins later (I think), was tapped AGAIN wondering if I wanted breakfast. I said no, though not as politely. What are the FAs doing??? Are they instructed to wake people up?? Do I need to get a sign saying Do Not Disturb? I fly about 90k miles a year and this was the first time someone woke me up. I had always thought that if you missed food because you were sleeping, tough luck. |

So I guess either way the poor FAs are gonna lose out, damned if the wake a person and damned if they dont |

i liked the idea presented at the DO about a simple sticker on the tray for leave alone or wake, cost effective, and easy!

Well, the simple and proactive answer is for the PAX to mention to the FA's upon boarding that you do or don't want to be woken for the meal orders. If you have already ordered, and you fall asleep, procedure is to wake you for a hot meal delivery but not a cold one. Again, letting the FA know ahead of time will avoid any ambiguity.
That being said, many FA's will wake everyone because they don't want to be bothered by a bell from someone just waking up while they're trying to finish the service. Me, I'll let you sleep in the hope that you don't wake up and I get to eat your meal. See, everyone has their own little agenda. |

my suggestion, everyone can try to add a little more civility to life. politely tell the FA that you would, or would not, like to be awaken for the meal service. or ask that your seat mate convey your wishes to the crew. |

Shouldnt be a prob for FC thou. asking the other person is good as long as they too dont fall asleep, and as luck will have it the FA will wake you 1st and ask and then wake them up and ask them |
In BF they also ask you when you finish with dinner if you would like to be woken up for the mid-flight snack. I find that to be a very nice gesture. Stickers would probably be easiest though. I have also seen in economy the FAs opening the tray tables and just slipping the meal on the tray while a passenger is still asleep.
