I've been thinking about the 'DO and how we collectively as FT'ers acted there... I had these thoughts at the saturday hangar party, and then the pilots made the big deal (and I bristled at their use of us to score cheap points against management)...

But at the 'DO I heard that there was some very inappropriate behavior on the 739 that caused it to be shut, and thinking, ... are these people doing? (I hadn't bothered the check out the 739, I was flying on one the next day) then we see the pictures on the internet, I wouldn't expect to be invited back if I were a guest....

I thought the same thing...I, too, didn't check out the 739 on Saturday night, as I have had the chance (at another FT DO) to check out one before. I blew off some of the comments made by the pilots initially, but I see now that some of the activities that were going on in the 739 were unacceptable, imo.

I think that it is easy for us as FT'ers to get ruffled at the pilots (and we should have when the union used us as a pawn...but that thread... and that subject is closed), but now that I have seen and read some of the antics that went on up front that evening, I must say, some people really took advantage of the situation there. I wouldn't expect to be invited back either...and it looks like we won't. :(

Some people were doing some stupid things for sure, I felt this is a open house and one should treat it with respect, some treated it as a frat house. Really no other way to put it.

I took a seat, moved the yoke a little, got up went to the back it was steamy hot back there and I left, I know what the 739 looks like inside no need to tour that.

I don't know that there would have been much objection to people taking pics in the cockpit and such it was more the antics of a few, most people left the alcohol at the galley and respected it.

I visited the 739 upon arrival at the party - before any drinks were ordered. I thought - do it now - before it gets crowded.

It was nice to be able to see inside the cockpit and sit in a pilot's seat - closer to the side wall then I expected. At this point, no drinks and people were respectful. I did not see any reason to walk down the aisle - as I have done it 100's of times on normal flights.

It is unfortunate that later some were less respectful. But that should not tarnish the wonder event.

I completely agree with the OP. Bigbird090_mom and I were real baffled and how people were getting into the overhead bins, playing with all the mics, opening doors like it was a toy.

We were even more baffled when we informed a CO employee, and she said that it was alright. At that point, we became a little bit worried.

Only when Scott and others saw it did people begin realizing what was being done

With that said, I know that people meant no harm--but they should have been more careful!!

I don't want to say too much but I suspect something on some of this here.......:rolleyes:

Booze in the cockpit is bad. I get that.

Saying silly things on the PA system. Meh. If the comments were truly disrespectful or obscene I can see problems with that. If it was folks telling off-color jokes I'm not sure.

Climbing in the overheads (as long as the climber is within the weight limits) and running TP races are not bad, IMO. Sorry if others disagree, but I just don't see those things as a problem. For one thing, I've heard crews tell stories of doing the same for years. For another, the CO employees were the ones facilitating that behavior on the plane.

And I wonder the purpose of starting this thread, but that's a whole different thought cycle.

The only things I heard over the PA were silly comment that were funny like "Ah, folks, welcome aboard Continental Airlines flight 6969 to Newark this evening. Ahhhh, right now the computer is showing a 3 hour flight, but we are delayed because it is raining in Norfolk right now, so that means Newark is delayed".

I didn't hear anything bad going over the PA.

TP races.....ok it is a mess clean it up..

but climbing in the overheads, ya I have an issue with it overall, it doesn't matter if they were facilitating it, that is how headrests break!

Also just because someone is facilitating you doesn't mean you aren't being umm....setup. DO you have pics of who helped you? :D

I honestly do not think that the CO folks on the plane were setting us up. I probably do have pics with some of the crew in them though I tried to actually frame the shots better than that. And I wouldn't sell them out even if I did have proof of who it was.

Probably. This may be one of the few times I will disagree with the mantra of the PWP and not go for the "more is more" concept.
