IAH/EWR First Class Breakfast Question

I pass through EWR or IAH every week, and, when I take the breakfast leg in first, there is something I don't understand. To EWR, we get a croissant, fruit and yogurt. This is a 2 hour 30 min flight. Meanwhile, when I go to Houston, we get a choice of cereal or hot sandwich with fruit, yogurt and a cinnamon roll. This flight is 1 hour 55 min. ???? Anyone know the reasoning? You should be getting more food on the longer flight. Both flights are in the designated breakfast times, 7 AM - 9 AM.

I travel DCA-IAH weekly on the 7am departure from DCA and we always get a cheesy style omelet with some sort of potato gratin with a side of pork prodcut (sausage and/or ham.) The other option is cereal with banana and milk. Both options come with a plate of cut fruit and pink yogurt.

Are you sitting in the last row? Maybe the FA's are eating the omlettes?

Haha...no...I leave from either PBI or FLL and get jipped on the EWR leg. This has been a five year ordeal and don't understand it.

EWR-Florida routes receive a downgraded meal service in F/C. I believe the excuse is the cheap F/C fares on the routes.

Curiously, lunch and dinner flights between EWR and Florida receive 'normal' FC catering for the flight's duration. Breakfast is the only service that is downgraded, but I still find the fruit plate, yogurt, and croissant to be acceptable until my next, more substantial meal.

I'm sure there are cost savings involved, but I really wonder how much it could be, simply because breakfast flights are the only ones that have a scaled-back service. Even in coach, AM flights are only worth a muffin, but lunch/dinner gets the standard turkey grenade box like virtually every other medium-haul CO mealtime flight.

Most Florida flights get meal service anyway, so I think it's interesting (and pleasant, IMO) that just the morning flights receive a 'lighter' service.
