standby baggage

Quick question. The Mrs. and I are traveling out of EWR. I'm plat, wife does not have status - we're on a split PNR for the EUA. Confirmed a sameday standby for her- but I'm on the waitlist.

When I get to EWR will the desk allow me both of our rollaboards in my name, to get the plat benefit? I think I read that if you're on SBY they check the luggage to the standby destination - can anyone confirm.

As you might imagine the idea of split flights has been not so well recieved.

thanks!

You both get the plat benefit of free checked bag no matter what, as you both started on your PNR and keep that status for the checked bag. But there is nothing stopping you from presenting both bags as yours and having them tagged as such.

Could be the OP messed up what he wanted to say. But as he has it now with his wife already Confirmed on the flight they really want and he is WaitListed. I would check both of the bags in as his wifes, thusly be assured they will end up where they want to be. True if he doenst clear the WL she will have to deal with the bags alone but at least they will be at the final destination and not EWR where someone forgot to pull them and put them on the cleared flight or off the old flight if he clears the WL

thanks to both, I wasn't aware the bag benefit was shared with the companion on a separate PNR. That solves the problem.

Thanks!

Only if you start together on a single PNR and then split for EUA purposes. Somehow the system supposedly tags the original reservation as such. If you just book them apart to start then it doesn't carry over.
