Connecting in EWR question

This Saturday I am IAH-EWR, EWR-FRA. The IAH-EWR is scheduled to arrive at 4:00pm. EWR-FRA departs 7:15pm. There is a chance of showers, but not ice or snow, in Newark on Saturday. Should I take an earlier flight? I have never connected through EWR so I don't know how they handle a little weather.

Also these were ticketed separately. If I am late even though because of their flight would I just be out of luck with them helping me find an alternate that was not full fare?

If I were you, I would probably try and get on an earlier flight into EWR. I don't think you're going to miss the connection, but since you're on two separate records, I'd probably be extremely conservative and get to EWR as early as I could.

Weather for this Sat NYC Rain showers on and off, temps in or near 50

Whatever snow/ice we got has melted away already

But with the NW in for some more snow/ice in the coming days and Cali being off as well, it couldnt hurt to be prudent and jump an earlier flight just in case the plane for the 4pm arrival is coming in from a place that will have bad weather

Thanks for the advice. I changed flights. All I could get without a change fee or fare change was 6:30am. Ugh. Oh well, I will just camp out in the PC.

If your flight is on time, you can take the airtrain to the railroad station (10 min) and take a train to Manhattan (22 minutes). Depending on how long you have to wait for a train 0-30 minutes, you'll be there by noon. Take one of the following trains back and you'll have plenty of time to make your 7:15
LV ARRIVE
A159 5:05pm 5:27pm
7261 5:07pm 5:30pm
7861 5:14pm 5:37pm

That gives you enough time to go to the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) and walk around Fifth Avenue and have lunch, or go downtown to Wall Street and South Street Seaport, shop at Bloomindales and the Apple Store, or whatever you feel like,

I would've just taken the 3+ hour layover and gone with it. But with the amount of time the OP has I'd definitely not spend the whole day at the airport. The trains are easy and pretty reliable.

That sounds like a good idea. I think I will do that.

If there were seats open on flights that day, in any fare class, I would've waited until today and just used the 24hr confirmed standby. It usually gives you a much bugger selection of flights to choose from.
