CCS flights gone?
I had tickets for EWR-CCS on 12/26 returning 1/4, and I just got a schedule change routing me EWR-IAH-CCS.
I called Continental, and they said the IAH-CCS flight is also gone later in December - the government of Venezuela has revoked their operating certificate. Anyone else hear this? I haven't seen anything in the news. |
I haven't heard anything about this and one can still book flights to CCS after Dec so I am not sure if there is any truth to this. Also if the agent said they are ending service in late Dec, how can you be returning in Jan?

I would not be surprised, many of the other US carriers pulled out a while back. I guess I should have said cut back on flts and had to completely change schedules. I think there was a time that flts were cancelled at least that is what I remembered from when we lived there, but of course I may be wrong.

They (the Venezualen govt) have been threatening it for a while. Interesting that they actually will go through with it.

What other US carriers? American, Delta, and Continental still serve CCS. The only other US legacy carrier that I can think of is United that does not serve CCS and US Air if you count them.

This change is recent... as in today. I booked my tickets back in August.
I just tried several random dates post 1/1 on Continental.com and Delta.com for IAH-CCS and ATL-CCS. Nothing is bookable. |

WOW its true looking in our reservation system the only flights offered connect in MEX or PTY on Copa. There are no non-stops listed on CO for sale. This must of just happened because there are no warnings listing what happened in our system. I am pretty sure that we will hear what happened on Monday and I will update if I get the information if COinsider does not chime in before me, I am pretty sure he knows. The last flight I saw that was non stop was 17dec 11:59pm.

Just yesterday it was noted that the 753s might start serving CCS. Very strange indeed.

Didn't they pull our "privilege" after we recently deemed the CCS airport to not be up to US standards for safety? I believe something like this happened in the past.
From the CO site: Travel to Venezuela The Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is unable to determine whether Venezuelan airports that serve as the last point of departure for non-stop flights to the U.S. maintain and carry out effective aviation security measures in accordance with the Standards and appropriate Recommended Practices established by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). All flights are subject to continuing effectiveness of government approvals. |
