when bumped, which fare class?

So say your flight is overbooked and you end up bumped on an economy ticket. Which fare class shows up on the new ticket? Is it the fare class you originally had, Y/H class or something else? The point here is Y/H earns 150% EQM while another fare class may earn only 100%. Is it possible to ask to be put on a Y or H fare when getting bumped to try to earn the extra miles?

Don't ask. Consider it a gift when the BP to the new flight says H or Y. Some agents will go thru the drudge work of finding a seat in bucket that you were in, while others will put you in full Y just for their ease of process.

I prefer to be moved to the A or F fare class when bumped. :p

The new boarding pass will almost always say Y (or A or J if in F or BF) but the 50% bonus EQMs seem to be hit or miss.

They usually put you into the same fare class.

However, you can ask (part of the "negotiation") to be put in a higher fare class.

I am actually more concerned about the 50% extra EQM since I am a little short of Gold and want to save myself a trip on Amtrak the last few days of the year.

I am flying 12/23 LAX-EWR and the flight seems extremely full. So if there is a bumping opportunity and I ask for an H or Y fare (nicely) and then later insist to CS that I am owed an extra 50% EQM for this, hopefully it will all work out.

I doubt it will work like you want, but YMMV

I got rebooked into Y and asked if it did and she reluctantly said: "it did". I was hoping she wouldnt change it by me asking and she didnt...got double points and PQM for it.

So what mechanism is in place to prevent Y-rebookings from being eligible for elite Y-UPs?

None. Someone here reported using that once.
