Upgrade using miles Q from newbe

Nice and informativ forum!
Question., Me, my wife and 2 teenagers have booked OSL-EWR on 22 dec on coach and should like to upgrade to BF using miles, called the one pass center , they said it was only 3 avalible seats and the cost was 20K miles per person + 400$ per person, but as long as we would like to be toghether I wonder if it better to wait until we reach the airport and see if there are 4 avalible tickets then, can they do this uppgrade on the airport?
I am a CO Plat and is it possible that I and 1 person get complementary upgrade when ticketing, and then only need to use 40K miles and 800$ if avalible seats?

CO does not do free upgrades on the trans-atlantic (TATL) flights except on the rare case that economy is overfull or something strange like that.

If you want to sit in BF, you will have to use the miles and pay the fee.

But why can I see people on the PDA upgrade stand by list every day on those fares then?

They are on stand-by because their upgrades w/ miles and co-pays have not cleared.

Right: I was on the UG SB list from HKG to EWR last month because I had committed the miles, but the class wasn't available. If they had not been able to clear me at the gate, my miles would have been redeposited. .. and I would have looked like this: :mad:
