Could not print boarding pass

Hi all... quick question. I checked in online tonight for my flight to Rome tomorrow. When I got to the part where I was supposed to print my boarding pass I got the message "this is not a boarding pass" I need to check in at a kiosk, a Continental Representative has to check my documentation.

When I am in Rome and check in online, I get this message. I've never had this happen to me here in Newark. Any input would be appreciated.

Thank you all in advance.

There have been recent changes w/r/t passport data and verification procedures that the feds are requiring of CO. You need to swipe your passport at a kiosk to "load" the info to their systems and then you should be able to OLCI going forward.

Thank you for your response, it's greatly appreciated. I wasn't aware of the new requirements. Happy Holidays to all!

Another possibility is if you are on standby for an upgrade. Because of that extra segment that shows up on the record locator, OLCI doesn't know which segment to check you in for, thus the need to go to the airport.

I've had this happen several times since I did the passport swipe and loaded that info into the system, and I finally asked someone about it.

Not sure about that...it may depend on whether the name in the Continental system matches the name in your passport.

I got the message Wednesday while trying to check in for a Thanksgiving trip to Ireland. I had been able to check in online and print BPs for previous international trips. At the checkin counter at DEN the CO rep said that unless I change my "Continental" name to match my passport (by calling in), this issue will recur.

That's the new passport requirements from the TSA. If you swipe your passport at the kiosk it verifies that you are who you say you are.

It will continue to occur until your name in CO's system matches the name in the passport.

There have been a few threads about this in the last month or so.

Need to change name?

I just tried to check in for tomorrow's flight to Bonaire. So, I need to change my name in the CO system and all will be fine? Or can I leave my name the same? (My name in CO system is First Name, Initial of Maiden Name, Last name. Name on passport is First Name, middle name, maiden name, last name)

You should be fine. The first and last names are the important ones.

My passport has my First Name, Middle Name, and then Last Name. But all my reservations are just in my first Name and Last Name. I have been able to check in online for international flights both when I was leaving the US and when I was returning. I always click the option that says that my name on the passport is the same as my name on the ticket and I've never had any trouble.

This simply means at some point you swiped your passport or showed it to an agent at the counter that approved it.

I took a look at my profile for the first time in who knows how long. There are a few more "optional" things that can be entered that wasn't there before. Prior passport info has been wiped clean too.

Thanks. I guess I should have said that my name was the same.

International OLCI

It really would be helpful if Continental would update the FAQ page regarding online check-in to remove this uncertainty regarding proper formatting of account names, kiosk scanning of your passport, and the length of time that this scan remains valid for. A simple, but accurate, list of eligibility requirements for International Online Check-In would be perfect.

Additionally, while I am uncertain about departures from Shannon, flights originating in Dublin have been able to use online check-in since the summer of 2008.
