Well when EWR-CUN in Jan goes under $300 A/I I will know the tide has turned. I need to get away with my two BFFs for our Mexico Spa weekend and all the fares are over $460. So when does the tide go out?

The tide is high, but I'm movin' on.

Wake me when TATL and Mexico/Central America fares come down from ridiculous levels for Jan/Feb travel. I know you can't judge the load on a flight entirely by the seat map, but it's presently looking like a lot of TATL flights will be going out near-empty in January and February.
- AMS-EWR: Flight was completely full in the back. I assume it was actually oversold, as the wife and I snagged an op-up at boarding. - EWR-AMS: No op-up, but not a single seat was empty on the entire plane, at least that I could see. - AMS-MSP: Maybe a couple of empties in J. No more than a handful of empties in back. - JFK-CDG: Pretty much completely full. Every seat on the upper deck was occupied. I was shocked at how full the planes were on all of these flights and I wonder when/if the bottom will actually drop out. I wouldn't mind some sub-$600 fares. |
The deals do seem to be coming in of late, particularly to YYC, SJU, PDX and SEA. The DTW/WAS-IAH-YYC deal for 164+ is as low as I've ever seen it.
As sfogate said, much of this is probably related to seasonal travel demand. However, I have to think that with all the excess fee money and a return to 'normal' oil prices, CO can afford to push out more low fares then usual. |
