You are correct.

Anyway, I just changed my flight to an earlier one today. It only cost $50. They don't make you pay the new ticket price with the SDC. That's the biggest thing I was worried about.

Thanks everyone for your input.

Since SDC is only offered online during OLCI, and OLCI is only available @ 23:59 prior to departure, it would be impossible to SDC to the same flight one day earlier.

How about same day departure change to a departure one day later?

That is, does the 24 hour window extend to after the flight? For example, if I have a hypothetical 8am flight Friday, can I call at 10pm Friday night (14 hours after) to book on the 8am for Saturday?

Also, has free, unconfirmed standby been "enhanced" away? Thanks!

No, you must call before your flight time, otherwise you will lose your entire ticket value. In your example, the latest you can go is 8pm Friday.

You need to have it changed before your flight departs. And you can only get a flight within 12 hours from your request change time. So, the answer is no to your first question.

From co.com:

Can I change my flight to the day before or the day after?
Yes, but only when you make the change within 24 hours before your original scheduled departure, and your new itinerary departs within 12 hours of the request.

Can I change to a later flight with this policy?
Yes, but to do so you must make the change prior to your originally scheduled departure in order to maintain the value of your ticket.

There's no more free standby that you can request.

Thanks for the prompt replies!

Two last questions:

1) Ok, so do I need to do SDC ( to access flights up to 12 hours later) before the flight departs or before it closes?

Using the example for the hypothetical 8 am Friday flight, can I call at 7:45am (15 min before departure) for the 7:45pm flight later that day?

How about 7:59:59 am for the 8:00pm flight that Friday night? :D

2) Can one use a CO travel voucher to pay for the SDC fees?

Cheers!

AFAIK, the answer would be no.

I think it is cash or credit only, no checks, no vouchers. ;)

On my last itinerary, I changed my return flight CO1521 ATL-IAH from Friday to the same flight on Thursday. I did this through co.com using the "Change Flight" link about 27 hours before my original departure. All co.com wanted was my $25 (plat) SDC fee.

The website did error out when it tried to take my payment, but it did change the flight in my reservation. At that point, I just called the elite desk to take my payment.

I dunno, maybe it was a website glitch and I got lucky that day.

You definitely got lucky. I started a thread a few days ago addressing this exact issue (SDC onto same flight for previous day), and CO_Insider himself replied that they set up the system to prevent this scenario!

prior to scheduled departure (i.e. delays do not count)
