Bye-Bye Transcon....Well, Almost

Checked for another thread before I posted this, but didn't find one.

Just wanted to let all of our amazing FFs that our traditional transcon service will now only be available on EWR-LAX-EWR and EWR-SFO-EWR flights. All other west-coast destinations will still continue to offer our First Class service with two meal choices.

We appreciate your continued business with us:)

Well that's a total bummer. I wonder if this means they will be differing the price on EWR-SFO/LAX vs all the other transcons to reflect the level of service.

<sigh>

You'd think that CO would be able to leverage their cost advantage in meals via Chelsea to help further differentiate the product.

Just out of curiosity, what's the excuse?
Unprecedented fuel prices?
Overcapacity in the market?
Customers feedback?
Alignment with our future partners?

We were never told. Just told that SFO and LAX would be our only transcon flights. Sorry guys. I love making ice cream sundaes just as much as y'all enjoy ordering them.

Uh, short of an offical release, I would consider this internal information. Careful about not messing up our (so far) blessing from the company. Not that our customers don't have the right to know, just that the company has a right to decide when to release it.

There is no official and specific "transcon service" to start with, so I don't see any official release.

---

Edit: Actually, by next year with LiveTV installed, I believe EWR-LAX/SFO will be exclusively on the 739ERs. So, perhaps we'll get an official release about the enhanced service on those two routes.

I was actually told from a passenger before I found out from the company. I was working a flight up front and a passenger asked me questions about it. Not sure how he found out, but the word is already out somehow.

Hmmm...didn't know that. There is a specific service level internally (and of course those PAX who fly trans-con know of it).

Yup. And, even moreso today I decided to post the nicer version of the announcement, since a certain .net has already posted it in not such a pleasant light.

For eyes only.Don't let the enemy see this. This is more damaging than the blackmail box that Det Vic Mackey (The Shield)has to use against dirty politicians.

This just in from the company. "We are reducing the # of peanuts per bag from 12 to 11. It was a painful decision that went through every level of the company from inflight, marketing, maintainence, numerous task forces and number crunching bean counters all the way to the top, but the $90,000,000.00 this will save a year more than offsets the fuel hedge fiasco we paid one of our execs to hedge fuel at the wrong time.*

Note, most of this is tounge in cheek, but you get my drift!:D

I know. I mean there's no official description of any "transcon" service that Continental provides for its passengers. On co.com, there is Hawaii service, there's Caribbean service, etc... But 48 states and Canada are all lumped together with no distinction for the transcon.

sbm12 Oct 19, 2008 2:51 pm

This sucks in that they are cutting services, though it doesn't really affect me much as I rarely fly the transcon routes.

Any word on the effective date for this change?

And really how many destinations are affected? I count four from memory (SAN, SNA, SEA, PDX) for a total of 12 flights each way daily (3 to each destination). LAX/SFO offer a combined 13 flights each way daily, so the majority of the transcon flights will keep the service, if you want to twist the stats that way. ;)

I wonder where that passenger could have heard that?  :p It seems to me that the information has come full circle.

If this turns out to be true,

first, hate to say 'I told you so'...

and second,

Big :td::td::td::td::td: to CO on this cut in quality.
