Capacity reduction seems to be working ...

Ms. JG and I have always spent New Year's back in Louisiana. We typically go the Saturday after Xmas, and return after New Year's day. We flew into MSY for many years, but since the storm, we've been flying in BTR.

For the last 8 years our tickets have been as low as $250, and never higher than $400, a.i.

This year, EWR-BTR is $675, EWR-MSY is $550. (LGA, other airlines are the same or higher). And that's 3.5 months in advance.

Sure is hard getting used to the new world of higher prices.

Holidays are definitely higher -- and weekday business travel seems back to normal levels. But weekends away from holidays still seem very reasonable.

Can still get to Orlando from NY for $150 roundtrip...though most of those are on Delta, American, etc. But there are plenty of fare bargains still out there for those looking for a quick weekend away. All depends on how much competition there is on the route.

We finally decided to fly to MSY on the 30th for New Years. We had committments to spend XMas in NY/NJ and are flying north on the 23rd.

The fares between XMas & New Years are crazy.

ITA shows UA JFK-IAD-MSY for $270 ai on the 27th.
