Farewell Oakland
Flew into OAK tonight from IAH on flight 285, packed plane, it will be a shame to see this all end tomorrow, using CO from OAK was a joy compared to dealing with SFO or SJC for those of us in the east bay and north bay. Sign of the times I suppose, OAK was also earily dead tonight, compared to crowds on previous Labor Day weekends, the parking lot is 1/3 full tonight - it is going to be an interesting 4th quarter.

I suspect OAK and RNO will make it back on the route map at some point.
OAK was good to get to Frisco in a pinch, especially when CO (briefly) had an EWR-OAK flight. Usually was cheaper than SFO and great u/g odds. I loved Reno simply because it was so convenient to Squaw Valley, one of my favorite ski spots. Never flew into RNO for anything other than that so I suppose that may be one of the reasons it's going away. I believe NW canned their flight to RNO as well, so it looks like DL is the only SkyTeam game in town now. At least UA is in there for future ski getaways ;)! |
OAK was so convenient for me, though with the last few schedule changes the flight times have been rather poor, IMHO. I'll miss. I'll also miss the EWR-SJC nonstop :(

Farewell Oakland
Thanks to the ground staff in Oakland. In the last three years I guess I have flown in and out thirty times. The staff generally have had their act together in my experience, and have done their job in a competent and professional manner. I shall miss Oakland! Thanks for a job well done and good luck working at SFO!^

I flew into RNO and out of OAK a couple of weekends ago to add to the flight memory, collect some Hard Rock Cafe pins, and photograph a couple of state capitols.
Took the red-eye back from OAK and was upgraded to first (Silver Elite). Both flights were just about full, and I heard a gate agent in OAK comment about the flights always being full. Hopefully as/if oil prices continue down the routes will be reinstated. |
I, too, will miss OAK. From many areas in San Francisco, the drive from the city to SFO was not materially any further than the drive to SFO, which made OAK a good option if SFO fares were too high or upgrade chances were too low.

Although generally speaking I prefer more destinations rather than fewer...all things considered I'd rather have 10 departures from SFO than 5 from SFO, 3 from SJC and 2 from OAK.
