I have to go to India for business early next year, and I can't get my current company to pay for anything but Y :(

Certain oil companies, from my understanding, pay for domestic F for anything > 3 hours.

I wonder whether any big oil companies are based in a San Francisco Bay Area suburb, like, say San Ramon?

A key reason is that, unlike UA and AA, CO's F fares are reasonable to most domestic destinations. I suspect that CO gets a lot more paid F revenue than UA/AA.

If I connect in IAH, I just pay the F fare since I know there's no way an upgrade will clear for a lowly Gold... maybe from OAK, but that'll end soon. :(

On the other hand, if I connect in CLE, there is less pressure on F seats and I routinely get my upgrades.

As for NY, sorry but I now fly VX. :)

Incorrect, but sounds great.

Perhaps they are all sending the troops to the Bay Area to scout locations for all those new offshore drilling platforms? :D

Many large financial services companies (e.g., Wall Street) have 5-hour policies, though they come and go with the fortunes of the market.

Right...and the companies that are wasting share holder money on putting average rank-and-file employees (yes -- I fall in that bucket too) because they cannot handle a transcon in Y should have their CEOs sacked.

6hrs in Y isn't going to kill anything .... except egos.

Sure, I'd much rather being in F (upgrade or paid) but I cannot see justifying paying for F on transcon for rack-and-file.

Sounds like a good story for USA Today .... how much companies are spending for F on transcon flights.

I'm sorry, that's just an assinine post, for many reasons.

Well I know one does as some of their middle management are meeting in the conference room next to me and heard them talking about it.

Maybe you have some inside information on all oil companies?

The one I worked for had a policy of anything international over a certain amount of time (variable) was allowed Business or the equivalent for the market.

I suggested to COInsider that CO needs to level the playing field in OP a bit. Why should a Silver in Denver be delighted with all the upgrades they get from the program, while Plats in SFO and other high-yielding markets think the program is very poor (as I do)? I suggested that CO give an upgrade cert or two to the Platinum Elites in such markets as part of their annual credentials.

Like most of what I've ever fed back to CO, it pretty much fell on deaf ears. Accordingly, CO has pretty much lost me a customer. Where is this airline that constantly improves its products and services?

Whine, whine, whine. You're upset because you don't get your free upgrades. That CO can sell its First Class cabin for real money on many high-yield markets sounds like good pricing on CO's part. I doubt that they miss your business.

My comment was far more relevant to the subject matter of the thread than your obnoxious rant.

My company has such a policy, except it's for domestic flights of 5hrs or more, and only for 'frequent travelers', loosely defined as those who fly more than twice per month. You get an upgrade to the next class of service. Of course, it's almost impossible to use the benefit because most flights are connecting somewhere in less than 5 hours.

All international travel to Europe and Asia is in J (subject to department approval), except for company event travel or when an employee is willing to fly Y and split the difference.

It's not impossible. I was recently upgraded both ways EWR-SFO, morning flight out and redeye return, traveling on an H fare purchased several weeks in advance. I'm a Plat.

"Slightly" OT, but if any industry can just throw money around willy-nilly these days, does it surprise anyone that it's the oil industry???
