Lufthansa strike and CO

So the UA board has a thread that catering is "greatly modified" out of FRA. This is due to the impending strike on Monday.

Wondering if:

CO catering will be effected out of FRA?

More importantly...will CO's flights INTO FRA be cancelled/changed/effected in any way?

(Have 5 BF seats to FRA on 8/1!!!! :D )

Not sure what's going on there... but there were some AF ground handler labor actions yesterday at CDG. Couldn't get anyone from AF to actually explain who or what... just that my inbound flight (I connected there) was delayed as the people responsible for the "stairs" (later found to be jetway) walked out. While being escorted through security for a tight connection, the AF rep said that some flights were being delayed, "indefinitely, maybe six hours, maybe one, maybe until tomorrow." Asked who was on strike, he responded, "I don't know, some AF ground handlers. I don't know who or what they want." My outbound flight was only delayed shortly while we awaited other passengers with tight connections.

had someone flying a couple of days ago EWR-CGN and dinner was a sandwich...due to strike of ground staff (they carried food for return trip on board)

I would think it would be CGN-EWR, not EWR-CGN. One would think the catering in EWR would still be ok. I am not really concerned about the catering, as much as MAKING it in!!! :D

It all depends if the Continental uses Lufthansa in Frankfurt for their ground handling. Lufthansa SkyChefs is pretty big, so very likely.

I doubt it though in regards of baggage, fueling and other stuff. You will definitely get there! Also, they will try and focus their strike on domestic and European service and take it easy on international flights. Delays are likely though.

The Unions are crazy. During such a time (airline industry facing the economy and fuel price), the ask for outrageous raises. Well, LH is still making lots and lots money though!

I flew AF out of CDG yesterday (Saturday) with no problems whatsoever. One can never know about strikes in the Euro zone.....

.... as much as one can not know if the airline you are flying on in the US doesn't go bankrupt in between.

The fabulous Mrs. xyzzy + 2 xyzzylettes did CGN-EWR yesterday.

She told me that there was no duty free on board due to the strike, at least that was the explanation on board. Of course, I can't really prove or disapprove of that but it doesn't sound very convincing to me.

The strike didn't start until midnight last night, so there is no reason for Lufthansa Sky Chefs to not equip that flight with duty free... To me it sounds like a lame excuse for something different.

So far, everything runs smoothly so far for Lufthansa, I guess it will look different further in the day.

I am on the DL 79 from TXL-JFK on 7-30. The flight is cancelled today, 7-28. Aircraft did not leave JFK on 7-27. Likely impact of the pending strike.

CO flight 97 TXL-EWR if flying today 7-28.

Seems as if the strike is causing CO some grief. Looking at 51 (FRA-EWR) today it is already delayed 4 hours +/- for "catering"!!!

I hope I can GET to fra friday!!!!

There are no strikes in Berlin today so I doubt this is the reason.

Getting TO FRA should not be a problem.

Interesting enough, TV states that there are no severe delays (Lufthansa) so far, this will change later on apparently when the first aircraft are called in for small maintenance checks.

Which is why I fly CO! ;) (Except this time, as I had never tried AF's biz product. Very nice, but the food is much better on CO...)

With CO, the chance to get stuck is clearly slimmer. Except in CGN of course ;)

The duty free cart and carrier are loaded in EWR and do not leave the plane at any out station. Not sure what was going on here. Possibly the ISM did not have the key to open the cart and carrier?
