Is this flight easy for upgrade?
I have the option to fly between IAH and EWR on Monday August 25 on either flight # 210 which is a 767-200 or flight #1577 which is a 757-200. I will be on a discounted economy fair. My question is, which flight is easier for upgrade (I am a Platinum)? My understanding is that on these flights, it is nearly impossible to get upgraded, even for a PLAT.
Which flight do you guys recommend for me to take? Timing differences are minimal as the 757 leaves about 30 minutes before the other flight. |
CO210 invariably makes the most sense because it has 25 F seats instead of the 16F on the 757-200. And FWIW, back in my Silver Elite days, I routinely got upgraded on CO210 via EUA whenever it was operated with a widebody.

The only time i did not get upgraded between IAH and EWR was this year on a EWR-IAH 6:30am flight on a 767-200. Apparently the flight was full of PLats (including myself) and there was only 1 upgrade that flight. |
the 762 and 752 only differ by 2 or 4 seats or something like that.
much better f:y ratio on the 762. but on IAH-EWR, you never know. FWIW, if you dont get up'd, at least you're gauranteed some type of IFE on the 762. |
As a Plat, you probably have a chance, although you shouldn't get your hopes up. As a Gold, I'm 1/12 EWR-IAH this year for EUAs, although I do generally fly in on Sundays and out on Fridays, which limits my chances, even on refundable tix.

Thanks guys for your feedback. I decided to book the 767-200 flight since I will have 15 minutes extra to make my connection from PTY. I was able to get 19A which i belieive is a bulkhead. Upgrade or not, it doesnt matter too much as i will be flying the next day in BF to Frankfurt in the 767-200 (watch out for my trip report).
