Will it be possible for me to score an upgrade?
I am non-elite on CO, but I still have some 31k miles hanging around on my account.
I have to fly from South America (GRU/EZE) to Guatemala on Easter Sunday, and all flights seem to be pretty full. CO from GRU would be a possibility, on Expertflyer 92 GRU-IAH looks like this:
J9 D9 Z9 R5 Y9 H9 K9 M9 N9 B0 O9 V0 U9 Q0 I9 S0 W9 T0 X9 L0
I could purchase H Class. Can anyone give me a hint if I will be able (as non-elite) to score an upgrade on this flight and how much will it cost. That means, is H considered full fare or just any economy class?
Thanks a lot.

"H" fare will cost 25,000 miles each way to upgrade, but no fees.
"Y" fare will cost 12,500 miles each way to upgrade, also no fees.
The lower fares will cost 25,000 miles + fees each way.
You don't need to be elite.

You are eligible for the upgrade but I don't know that you'll get it. There may be others ahead of you on a waitlist right now and you won't really know for sure until 24 hours out (and you might just discover that you don't get it.
Another option is Copa via PTY. You save 4-5 hours of travel time and don't have to deal with US immigration. On the downside, if you do that route you get a 'regular' F seat, not a BF seat, so it might not be worth the miles. Also, the Copa flight departs GRU at 4am, which sucks.
