basic miles question

Do Continental miles expire? If so, how fast and what kind of activity is needed to extend the time? My sister-in-law just found out that she lost lots of miles on an inactive Delta account. We have Continental miles I am worried about.

Do Continental miles expire?

Technically, yes. In reality, no. However, you never know when the reality will become the technicality. (i.e. when they will start enforcing the rules). Therefore, it is always good to have some activity on the account. This can be as little as buying some flowers from their website flower shop and getting the mileage credited to the account. I would not leave the account dormant for a long time in any event.

The official policy is 18 months of inactivity, but CO has repeatedly stated that it is not being enforced. I wouldn't worry about the CO miles right now, though you (or the sis-in-law) should stay attuned to the programs, just in case things change.

CO was saying they don't enforce the 18-month rule, back when everyone else was 36 months. Now that most everyone is 18 months, well, expect some enforcement.

They certainly have the right to enforce this but to date they never have. I wouldn't be so quick to expect anything to change.
